This is going to be the FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) corner..!

Here you can read some of the most common questions regarding this forum and/or fandubbing, mixing and singing.

Q: What is fandubbing?

A: Fandubbing is when you cover a song from any group - you basically made your own cover.

Q: Do I have to be talented in singing to join?
A: No, most of the members have not taken lessons and have all learned by themselves. There's nothing to fear (:

Q: What is SWS Fandub Studios?
A: SWS Fandubs is for fans in Europe who like to sing and make covers for their idols and will act like a common place where all can talk/discuss about our common interests.
Our biggest interest would be Japanese and Koreanese music - mainly Johnny's Entertainment and SM Entertainment.

We're a non-audition group and gladly allow new members to join!
At the moment there's only official projects on-going ruled by the admin and mods - as the amount of members is too small for personal projects, but such category will open up as soon as we get more people to join!

Q:How did SWS start?
A:
SWS started back in the middle of autumn 2009 with only 2 members. The start was a duet project of Akuma na Koi.
We talked a bit more and decided to open up the group for more people and another member joined.
Then we got our LiveJournal community and people started to join.

SWS stands for "Stars of West under the Sky" and is mostly dedicated to fans in Europe but gladly accept others too..!

At the moment now we're a staff of 3 and about 5 other members.

Q:Where do I start?
Well, first off you need to read the rules and regulations (which I hope you have done) and then it's just to join!

Q:How do I participate?
A:
20 August 2010: It's simple, as we will only use colour coded lyrics until the members amount has increased, you just need to post a comment in the thread and tell us that you want to take part.
Then, when the lyrics are out - you're free to record/complain about the parts etc. Second step is to upload it; use any free downloading host server - most preferred is mediafire.com/box.net/mirrorcreator.com .
When it's uploaded - comment in the same thread with the link/edit your post (if you're the last commenter).

Remember to record your voice only. do NOT record to instrumental/karaoke/mp3 - in other words: NO background music is allowed when recording! Only acapella is allowed.
Timing the words is also necessary - please try time your lines as much as possible.

Q:How do I record?
A: What you need is a mic and a recording device. Try not to use the one you get with your computer (it's usually crappy or anything).
You usually can find cheap mics to buy and/or buy them along with a headset. Then we come to the recording device; If you don't have a recording program (like adobe auditon), try Audacity it's free and easy to use for beginners.
When you record, please check that your sample frequency is 44100hz so it's easier to mix (this can be found under "Preferences -> Quality -> Standar sampling frequency" ) and try not to max out (when the blue recording bars goes out of the recording area).

Q:How do you time the recording?
I would suggest that you first check if you can record with headset/earphones on with music on while recording.
If you can't, use your phone or any mp3 player to listen to the original song. Otherwise you use your normal music player.
Then you open up the document with the lyrics, put on the music, then start recording.
This way your lines should be on time as you sing after the original song.

Q:What is a colour coded song?
It's a song where the colour coder has divided the lyrics in differents parts accoriding to the signed up members.
Each member will get a colour to represent themselves in the document.
All singing parts and harmonies and/or subgroup parts will also have their own colour/style.

Q: How many songs am I allowed to join?
A: You are allowed to join up to 4 songs. As soon as you have recorded your parts for the song and uploaded them and sent them in, they're off your list and you're free to add a new song to your list.

Q: What should I do if I want my solo/duet/trio/collab to be officially released?
A: Send a PM to any mod that moderates the Releases section and tell them what song you have done and by who, then links to the mp3, lyrics (if duet/trio/collab) and whom that has mixed the song.
Also, if you have any special name for your duet/trio/collab, please state those too.
