Welcome to the Continental Baseball Association! We hope you enjoy your stay. You're interested enough in the league, and now you'd like a quick run-down of what we are. Well, we're here to please. Here, briefly, is the CBA (Of course, this is a minor synopsis. Please look into more detail located in this section. This thread is intended to answer broad questions about the league): - We are a baseball player-sim league. That is, a league in which you create a player and do various tasks to improve him. Doing these tasks result in points, points in which can be added to your player's ratings. The better your ratings, the better you should perform on the field. - We use OOTP 5 as our simulation engine, and it can be found here. (free download) This is different for some of you that are used to seeing your players actually play out a game. This will only be done on special occasions (i.e. playoff clinching games), as the game is text-based. OOTP is much easier to use than console games (especially on my end). - You can be a: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF, SP, & CL. The league uses no DH, and relievers will be BOTs, based on team updates. Injuries are off. - Each week, we sim 20 games, for a total of a 5 week 100 game season. Then we'll have one week for a playoff series, and then the off-season. A week is considered 12:01 AM EASTERN Sunday to 11:59 PM EASTERN on Saturday. We sim on Monday (7 games) , Tuesday (6 games) , and Friday (7 games). The playoffs will then be Monday (Games 1 &2) Tuesday (Games 3&4) and Friday (Games 5,6,&7, if necessary). - Season 1, we will have 4 teams. Each must have: 4 starters & 9 position players. In the early stages of the league, we will have 13 man rosters, with rosters expanding after the trade deadline and for the playoff race. This number is yet to be determined. If you join after the draft, you will be placed on the team's farm system (in-game feature). There, if you are called up, you can't be sent back down. After your rookie season (unless you were in the inaugural draft), you will be a part of the following season's draft class. There will be no stats available for your time in the farm, as they're irrelevant (think of it as having to earn your way onto the box score). - We will determine a salary cap. There is no maximum salary that a player can receive, but the maximum length of a contract is three seasons. This is because at the end of their contracts, each player must be evaluated for a minimum salary, to keep the competitive balance in check. This system will be explained when the time comes. - You are only allowed to control one player at a time. If you retire, and you're still under contract, you must play out the remainder of the season as that player. During this time, you cannot accumulate points for your player in waiting. If you retire and are either a free agent, or you're released, then you can immediately begin improving your new player. If you are found to: a) be in control of multiple players or b) control multiple accounts, you will be suspended at the commissioner's discretion (with a minimum penalty of deleting extra player(s), up to and including lifetime suspension from the league). This league is intended for fun, we're not trying to deal with any bullshit. - So, how can you get points? Easy:Media Spot, Graphics, Trivia, Websites, Guess a Number, Name that Photo, Predictions (season and weekly), Grading, Stat Keeping, and the Activity Check. Somewhere in this list, you fit in perfectly. Here lies endless potential for your growth as a player and contributing member of the league. Every job needs someone to do it, or the league wouldn't be able to function. We all rely on each other to get these jobs done, that way the league lasts a long time and we can have some fun along the way. - Anymore questions? PM or AIM me (JamalSlickMM), and we'll add them to the list! Edited by Boss, Oct 20 2010, 10:42 PM.
