IC Information Role Play Sample: There are nights when the winds of the Athernium, so inviting in their promise of flight and freedom, make one's spirit soar... "One bleak evening, but a single night of an endless stream of bleak evenings, on a planet far out of the way of every trade route except one, there was a small family living in a small house off a small income, but they were happy. The father, Jacob Arrow, was a man of the skies, supporting his small family with the small amount of money he made as a tradesman. His wife, Christine, bore him two beautiful boys; twins. The twins made a lovely pair, complimenting each other in every way. They shared their father's untamable red hair and their mother's ever-curious blue eyes - bluer than any ocean, they were - both hale and healthy babes. Jacob Arrow himself was a strapping, reliable man - a family man cursed with a sailor's wandering toes. One day, when the boys were still very young, Mr. Arrow caught the break of his life: he was offered a lifetime position aboard the S.S. Olympia - the biggest and most famous cargo ship of its time and the next. Without so much as a second thought, Mr. Arrow excitedly agreed - only to realize later, too later, that he had made a grave mistake. The captain of the Olympia, Vigoss Glasglow, was a cunning, calculating man hailing from the far reaches of the Coral Galaxy. Glasglow had laborious, tediously, but determinedly climbed up the ranks of the Intergalactic Star Sailors* to become the captain of such a vessel - and it was only then did he show his true colors. Vigoss Glasglow, last of the Coralian Ivvestors, was a pirate. Horrified and betrayed, Jacob Arrow immediately confronted the captain about this mutinous act of treason - the ISS would not rest until the entire lot of them was either captured, or destroyed. But Glasglow, slippery as an H'Iberna wort, convinced Mr. Arrow that all would be well and that he may return to his beloved family, though not before the crew of the Olympia was well out of harm's way - after all, by that time Glasglow had hidden away in secret enough stolen cargo to live as a king anywhere he chose. Mr. Arrow reluctantly agreed, although deep in his heart he knew he would never see his wife or children again. Thus, with a heavy heart and his own secret agenda, Jacob Arrow reluctantly took up his duties as a rogue, a drifter, a cutthroat. It was soon made clear that Glasglow had made yet another empty promise, as the Olympia sailed farther and farther out - away from any chance Jacob may have of jumping ship and making his way home, until one day, when the Olympia had no other choice but to dock at a small way-station. The captain and his crew spent the evening happily terrorizing the local tavern and becoming so intoxicated they could hardly see straight: they had finally shaken the last of any ISS privateers! All but Jacob, that is. Jacob Arrow was not about to waste this opportunity to strike out for home. Gathering his few things, some rations, and even a handful of Glasglow's own purloined gold and stashing it all in a spare chest, Arrow snuck away, taking a longboat and not sparing a single backward glance. But Arrow had not prepared to the dastardly trick Glasglow had in store for him. Glasglow himself had once been a member of the infamous Marcus Flint's pirate crew, in days long past. Glasglow had deserted Flint when Flint needed him the most, making off with none other than Flint's treasure map and musket. Unwittingly, Arrow had grabbed the very chest in which the map had long been stored and stolen off in the night. Glasglow, a paranoid being if ever there was one, had infused the chest with a poison so vile, only he himself could stand it, being of pure Coralian blood. Jacob Arrow had made it less than a quarter of his way home when the poison's unspeakable effects killed him, but not before he managed to scrawl out a warning note and letter to his beloved, if ever he should be found. The little boat drifted, drifted for years until it's thrusters gave out, just within range of a planet far out of the range of every trade route, except one. Grady Briggs, long time friend of the Arrows and father figure to Jacob himself had been looking after Mrs. Arrow and the boys for the last few years in Jacob's absence. That evening, as he slowly drifted toward the Arrow's small wooden dock, just as Briggs was fearing he'd nod off again, he felt a bump on the side of his modest sailboat. Jacob Arrow was reunited with his family, but under circumstances so heartbreaking, his wife committed suicide that very night, leaving the boys utterly alone. It is said that the boys grew up to be right and proper homages to their father in every respect - honorable graduates from the ISS academy; strapping, reliable men; each embodying half of his father's best and worst qualities and turning out to be as different from each other as night and day: Endymion was intelligent to a fault, suitably sarcastic, and generally genial, if a bit cold, socially awkward, and a stickler for rules. Eriole was crafty, creative, and genuinely jolly, if a bit reckless, brash, and prone to "recreational rule bending." Both were svelte and wonderfully athletic, each had attained top marks in the ISS academy; they were fine sailors - they would have made their father very, very proud..." The musty tavern was bathed in a warm, orange glow from a large fire in the hearth and adequate wall sconces. There was silence as the men surrounding the speaker absorbed his words. The man who'd been speaking had a voice made for storytelling, and by the looks of it, he had perfected the craft to the T. Finally, one of the younger listeners and a sailor by trade spoke up. "Err, 'scuse me, Mr. Wossyername, but is that...is that all true? Does that mean these lads, Endemeron and Ermiolee have The captain Flint's treasure map? What about th' poison?" Next to him, a mostly drunk shipmate elbowed the boy in the ribs. " 'Ey, eyeyeyeyey. Shuddap thar, Merdy. Ever'un know Old Flint and whatnot is just a tall tale for the kiddos t'get 'em t'sleep at night, right, Mr. Wossyername? ...'Ey naow, whur'd 'e go?" Their speaker had seemingly up and vanished, leaving his tab neatly on the bar. As the tavern door swung shut, Grady Briggs sighed and shook his heavy head. I'm getting too old fer this... Briggs looked up into the vast expanse of dreams hanging above him like a tapestry full of pinpricks and sighed again. "Well, Jacob, I've looked after 'em s'long as I can...they're takin' off again t'morrer, and I'm going with them, just this last time, just fer you, matey. Watch over us, will ye?" He asked the ether, shuffling down the cobbled streets. Morning would come too soon, as it always did, and with it would dawn the start of a journey Briggs couldn't even begin to imagine. *Intergalatic Star Sailors (ISS) [[Might be a bit long, didn't check for length. =/ An old intro of mine...]] The Genres: Mixed bag, all the way - everything from sky pirates (above) to zombies to pokemon to persona to real life.
