Welcome to The United Literates, or TUL! We hope you enjoy your visit!

We're an all-genre, all-literate forum on the Zathyrus Networks, and we'd love to have you join! Our roleplays range from the fun to the mature, and are all member-run and created; they extend from Fictional roleplays set in the past and future, to Real-Life and Fan-Fiction categories. In addition to roleplays, TUL also has a vibrant community of artists and writers, featured in The Cafe section of the website, who also love to do things out of character through our Lounge area.

Right now, you're viewing the forum as a guest, which means you only have limited access to the board and its features. To join TUL and start roleplaying with us, all you have to do is click the link below, register, and pass through our brief application process. So what are you waiting for?

Role Play Sample:

The boy without a name wandered blindly through the woods, the moon’s pale shadow reduced to a mere trickle as it filtered through the canopy above him. He tried to keep his path to whatever pools of light he could find, but most were little more than a hand’s width across, and provided very little guidance. He might have been lost, if he had any notion of where he was trying to get to, or even where he had come from in the first place.

As it was, he simply followed the scattered trails of moonlight, stepping carefully not only to avoid making too much noise, but also to show some kindness to his bare feet, which bore the blood and bruises of many hours of walking. A faint network of cuts was also evident across his arms and legs, where branches and brambles had grabbed at the exposed flesh of his naked body. His lower lip was sore from being bitten in pain so many times. Still, he trudged onwards, his eyes fixed on the ground ahead of him.

Step, step, breathe in….step, step, breathe out…His heartbeat provided a rhythm for him to follow, only occasionally interrupted by a jolt of pain. Around him, insects, birds, and other night-dwelling creatures created their own quiet but constant chorus, a lullaby that reassured him that all was well. It was safe.

Still, there was one thing that did trouble the boy more than anything else. He was without a name. He was certain he had one, or that he should have one, at the very least, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not recall it… He could not recall when he had begun to walk, either, only the night and the forest. It was quite possible he had been walking since the previous day, but sunlight only existed on the farthest outskirts of his memory. Why was it so hard to remember? He could remember the names of the trees, the animals, the stars, but why could he not remember something as simple and important as a name? It was as if his own existence had been erased from his memory, and it frightened him.

He gave a small shiver as a cool breeze brushed past him, and would have wrapped his arms around himself had he not been keeping them outstretched to fend off unseen branches. Step, step, breathe… The rhythm of his body kept him going, even as his mind struggled with itself. Aside from cuts and bruises, he had no definite injuries that could account for the gaping hole in his memory. One hand briefly moved to his head as it had done several times that night, checking to make sure he was as uninjured as he thought he was. No blood, no pain, no sign of trauma... Nothing. Oddly, such an absence was even less reassuring to him than if he had found something.

Dead leaves and twigs eventually gave way to grass, and he blinked in the starlight as the trees slowly opened ahead of him. Forest gradually morphed into farmland, and in the darkness, he could barely see the outlines of a building. Perhaps there was more than one, but until he drew closer, he could not be certain. All he knew was that buildings usually meant people. Whether these people were good or bad was another matter entirely.

He barely saw the fence in time to stop, brushing his outstretched fingertips against the rough wooden beams. It was sturdy, but the gaps seemed to be wide enough that he could squeeze through them. Or perhaps he could simply climb over it. It was only as tall as his chest. He took a deep breath, then carefully stepped up onto the middle beam, swinging one leg over the top of the fence, twisting and following through until he was on the other side. His feet protested, but he only allowed them to have a few moments to rest before slowly making his way towards the buildings.

The Genres:I prefer the fantasy/supernatural genre, and I’m fairly flexible when it comes to time periods; I’ll go with medieval, modern, Victorian, ancient (Rome, Egypt, Asia, etc.)...just about anything, really. I’m not as familiar with futuristic/sci-fi or steampunk settings, though I am willing to learn. I do tend to prefer darker or more mature fantasy, as well.
