TAS Seraphim (Saucer) "Secretary Ryder if you would PLEASE stop tinkering with the ship and get back to your cabin!" an exasperated Commander Caralinni said as she had her hands on her hips and was ready to kick the crap out of Tony, who was half inside a Jefferies Tube. "I know you think you have some BRILLIANT idea but seriously... you are not one of my engineers." "You're right, I'm not. I'm the guy who helped design some of these systems." Tony said as he climbed out and folded up his tricorder. "There, maybe now that hum will stop. Too much ouYuice going through the ODN grid to the EPS conduits, regulator was shot. Fixed it." he grinned. "You should see what the President is up to." "OOOOhhhhhh... now I know why Captain Angel hates having you two aboard for more than an hour!" Tina said and stormed off. "Just clean up your mess!" "Touchy, ain't she?" Nick said as he crawled out of the tube across the corridor. "Reminds me of... oh who was that CO that wanted to space me once?" "Potter. He didn't know his ass from an escape hatch." Tony said with a laugh and picked up his tools. "Potter! Yeah... went to his funeral. Heart attack. Wonder why?" Nick rolled his eyes and grabbed his case. "If only all our problems were so easy to fix." "Well, you can shove an isolinear probe..." Tony gestured with the device and made a smirk. "For starters... ew. For seconds... what the frak dude?" Nick laughed and slapped him on the back. "Although it would solve one problem. Being nice to her." "Just think of her as any other planetary leader... only that you slept with her and she pushed four of your kids out of her. But she's evil and manipulative and nowhere near as great as Alice. Seriously... if you two didn't hook up, I would have gone for her in a heartbeat." Tony sighed as he looked at his ring finger. "Course I'm done getting married. Dev was the last." "Your own fault brother. How is she doin' anyway?" Nick inquired as they walked back to their quarters. "Kids are getting big, she's been working on some of the colonies getting them upgraded, using the Digital Frontier as a way of getting in and out without the Imperium tracking her. Time moves so much faster there that it's weird when you come out of it. Physically you're the same, mentally... it's jarring." Tony said as he touched a wall panel. "It was addicting. I would spend more time in there than out here with her. And then... she was gone while I was in there. At least we're still friends. And now that I'm SoD... I doubt I could give her the attention she and the kids deserve anyway. BUT enough about me... how are we going to get her to agree to what we discussed?" "That's why I wanted to do some engineering work... that always helps me think. This time... not so much." Nick said with a wince. "And you without your wifey. Still proud of her, that program she wrote for those school kids, wish we had that back when we were in school." Tony said with a chuckle. "I wouldn't have had to pirate and re-code my own. You know I am still banned from using Systiworks to this day? They see me register a demo and they actually call me up and go 'NO' and remotely uninstall it." "Well you DID give away your re-coded version for free... they kinda frown on that. You should know that now." Nick whistled. "Why do you think I give away licenses? I hate making credits off of kids. It's just.. wrong. Business, military sure no problem. But kids.. nah. Not me." Tony walked into his room and opened a bottle. "Fake stuff?" "Sure... I need to be awake when Becca and I meet to discuss things too. Times like this, I wish Dom or Nic were here, I need three more of me. And really this all hinges on what we come up with, iron clad solutions to keep them in line and to ensure the Alliance doesn't go down the same path it did." Nick said before taking a sip of his drink. "Although I wish Isabella and Eli were here, but they had to manage things down on TA." "You'll do just fine. And if not well... you and Alice will have a whole lot more time together when you lose the election." Tony raised his glass. |

"Don't even joke about that." Becki said as she walked out of one of the spare rooms. "Underwood hasn't been very pro-AI and I very much do not wish to have to hide who and what I am." she dried off her hair and tossed the towel at Tony. "Although I did not appreciate being listed as 'equipment' on the manifest and thus not issued quarters." "You're an LMD... albeit a very sophisticated one." Tony said as he shrugged his shoulders. "You don't think that I don't have needs and enjoy my privacy? Even if it's only in a small quarters?" Becki said and shook her head. "I'm not going to let you get to me. I'm dedicating too many processor cycles to contingency plans and monitoring Whisper's comms and such, to deal with your bullshit." "Our creation has grown up." Nick said as he undid his tie. "You could stay with me, but Tony's quarters are closer to the central core." "Which is why he gets the sofa and I get the bed. This body does require rest and my neural net does dream." Becki gracefully sat next to Nick and pecked his cheek. "Besides I enjoy needling Tony. You always treated me as a person, Tony... on the other hand, either as a tool or something soft to hold. Which normally I don't mind, but ever since I 'birthed' Iris... I feel like I've been evolving. Especially in this new body, between Jernal's upgrades, Soong's and Angel's advances... it would take a lot for someone to realize that I'm not a human. Even the skeleton is designed to look like human bones." "So that explains why you go 'offline' for dates huh?" Nick stroked his chin. "Singularity time?" "I had thought about that, I suppose to the wrong person I could represent something very scary." Becki gestured in the air. "Thinking machine that thinks its human and can self replicate. Well, with the use of replicators and such. Admiral Data does seem to be jealous. At least so I'm told, he's been evading Imperium patrols." "Which would stop... it's weird to think this war could reach a peace stage, even if we're cold warring, it would still mean that we'd actually be able to move around without imminent death being a worry." Nick said as he ran his hands through his hair. "Although if this doesn't go the way I hope... this could end very badly." "Either way. We face it together. And there is always the Kappa Protocol." Becki said cryptically. "Worst case scenario do we enact that." Nick said firmly. "Only if this goes really really really bad." |
