The Narlin Imperial Guard lined the path leading up to the structure. They wore they full armor crimson capes fluttering in the soft breeze and the pollished metal gleamed under the sun.

Standard bearers stood errect at the entrance. To the left one held the flag of Terra Alpha and to the right the Imperium flag was flown. Magus smiled. His people had a flare for tradition.

So did those Scots, he mentally added.

The Color guard for 101st, 54th Regiment, 2nd Batallion stood in a close formation. They all wore traditional Scottish attire and they were either playing bagpipes or pounding on drums.

Colonel Donovan had formed the Pipes and Drums when she was leading 2nd Batallion aboard the then U.S.S. Erebus. It had proven hugely successful and the unit continued even after Donovan handed over the reins.

While, most of the members weren't Highlanders. They all however, could trace their family back to a McKenzie, Fraser, Cameron, Campbell or any of the other nearly dozen highland clans.

The whole mood was festive despite the sweltering heat. But, after all it wasn't often two adversaries came together to talk peace.

On Talaria there would be a tournament where to two former enemies would send their warriors into the arena for the games of combat in a non-lethal setting. There would be much feasting, and a small population boom 10 months later.

Magus wore his loose fitting white robe. His hair was bound back and a golden crown perched upon his head. Narlins were not good at hiding their emotions and Magus was no exception. He was practically bursting with excitement.

"Aye, that it is." T'Kir said as she adjusted her hat and squinted. "Yuir men's armor is almost bindin'." she said with a smile. "Handsome lot... all of them." she added as she glanced at the Scot's pipers.

"Ach, down girl down..." Malcolm said with an eyeroll and cleaned his sunglasses. "President Ryder will be arrivin' shortly. And so will Queen Bi... Empress Lei." he said with a smirk and looked around. "Never thought I'd live to see this day."

"I know, I thought I'd have killed ye by now. So let's not cock it up." T'Kir replied. "Stormtalon, y'did a good thing brokerin' this meeting. Ironic isn't it? That the Imperium formed from racists, and yet once again, it's 'aliens' putting everything back together."

Magus grinned, "I think she respected the gumption. I would have. To show up on her doorstep unannounced proved that we didn't fear her, and maybe she should fear us a little bit." He paused and looked at the two, "Besides she can't show any weakness. I would bot be suprused is she made the whole thing look like it was her idea. She very well cannot do that with guns blazing nor could she decline. But, that's only my theory. Either way I did what must be done, and in the end whatever the reasons may be we both have done what's best for our people. If I were elected like the president I'm sure I woild not politically survive this. Especially releasing of prisoners. But, I am not."

"Well even she said we can 'keep' the real nutball ones." Angel said as she flapped her skirt slightly to get the sand that clung to the fabric off. "As long as we can get some of our people back, your people and generally give her back some of the more sane and intelligent ones. I know a few personally that I believe would do better back in the Imperium than sitting on Terra Alpha. Especially if Tiberius' people are slowly but surely being... eliminated."

"What I am more concerned about is giving her manpower." Ang commented and looked at Stormtalon. "Like it or not, we need to ensure there are good people among her people to perhaps allow sanity to take hold again. Even depose her at some point. Power vacuums do no good... trust me. In my reality we killed an insane Klingon Chancellor allowing an idiot to take his place. I may or may not have suggested another targeted strike..."

"Let's not plan that right now in this regard." Malcolm said and whispered. "At least until we know what daft terms that mad woman has in mind."

"Be nice people..." Angel said and looked at Colonel Coleson. "Who's idea was it to have the guys wear the kilts..." she winked "About time it's not just us ladies who show off our legs."

"That would be Colonel Donovan. She created the unit about 15 years ago and she modeled it off of the old Scottish units that served the British Empire. In order to join you have to have a highlander lurking in the family tree."

Coleson looked over at the highlanders and smiled. "It was my idea to bring them here today. Thought it might help ease tensions. I for one am hoping this goes well, and if I can make it more of a celebration than a pissing match between two rivals then all the better."

"I have to give it to you Alliance officers, you sure know how to put on a party." Kalia Lei said as she approached them. Her Imperium uniform pressed and crisp, her knee high black boots were polished to an almost mirror shine. "Commander Kalia Lei." she said with a crisp salute. "I'm you're unwilling prisoner." she chuckled. "Well maybe not a prisoner but the Empress and the President decided it was best if she had an important part of her entourage with important members of the Alliance delegation. Needless to say, I really do not want to be here. I have plenty of other work that I'm neglecting on Earth that I can't even do remotely."

"So what DO you do Commander?" Angel said with a raised eyebrow as she looked at her 'half sister'.

"I'm called an interrogator, but I'm more of a negotiator and mediator. I'm either the nice lady that comes up with a reasonable solution or the bitch that sides with the Imperium OR the traitorous bitch that sides with the ''enemy.' Depends on who you ask." Kalia replied and cleaned her sunglasses. "And yes this is my first time off Earth."

"And how IS my sister Olivia?" Angel inquired as she crossed her arms.

"Keeping secrets of course, I think she's colluding with one of our Intelligence Chief's and I think she has an infiltration team on Earth and I think she wants to kill mother." Kalia said with a sigh. "But otherwise she's fine. A little shocked that she knew her way around the White House as well as she did."

"Your mother used to work out of there, Olivia loved visiting. I never did, if we were in Washington, I was at the Smithsonian the whole visit." Angel said with a smile. "Or exploring."

"It's interesting to hear you call the Empress 'her' mother." Ang said with a raised eyebrow and a very Vulcan manner.

"That's what happens when you disown a parent." Angel replied. "In any case... we'll make sure you put on a few more pounds in that uniform."

"That won't happen. I saw Olivia in her underwear. Did she adopt her children?" Kalia whispered.

"Nope. She was always that way, and I'm her twin." Angel cleared her throat and watched the pipers. "So when is the Empress making her appearance?"

"Soon, your father and her crossed each other at the landing. So it shouldn't be long before both their delegations come out." Kalia said and took a seat.

"Where the hell is my padd?!" Julie bellowed as she was tearing apart the crate they brought with them. "I swear if you lost another one Claire, I don't care how old you are... you are going over my knee!" she growled and ran her hand through her hair. "Where the hell is it?!"

"Wow, some things never change." Olivia teased as she stood in the doorway. "Claire's hiding behind me..." she glanced at the older woman. "Are you sure you didn't leave it on the ship?"

"I..." Julie raised a finger. "CLAIRE! Ship. Now! I will not be late to this because of this... this...."

"Accident?" Olivia rolled her eyes. "I would almost think you're nervous."

"HA!" Julie laughed at the thought of her being nervous.

Claire cleared her throat summoning up her courage. She moved over to one of the luggage crates and popped it open and within a few seconds removed a PADD from a pile of others. "Ma'am, I am not a brave woman, particularly smart or a tactician. I can't shoot a phaser or run complex equations in my head. But, what I am is an assistant. I don't forget things or lose them. This is what I do so you can do what you do best."

Julie took the padd and checked it. "Ah ha! Thank you." she checked a few things and tucked it into her briefcase. "Alright, let's get this underway. Claire, keep doing what you're doing. Olivia... I know it's hard but will you please stop trying to hack into my classified data?"

"Would you?" Olivia said with a smile.

"Don't make me have Claire strip search you. Again." Julie said as she winked to her assistant.

"Where would I hide anything in this?"

"You do remember who trained you..."

"Good point."

Claire frowned. There were parts of her hob description that were less than to be desired. She looked at Olivia suspiciously. As far as Claire was concerned Olivia was traitor.

A traitor to her race. A traitor to her government. A traitor to her family. If had been up to her she would have executed the traitor in a very public and painful way, and certainly not let the woman wonder freely about the White House.

Out side the band paused and took up the Imperium anthem. It sounded stange with bagpipes. Hauting, and a touch sinister. Claire wondered if that was through a bias by the players. But, how do you makes a song sound evil by simply playing the notes?

"Ma'am our cue," the older woman announced. "Did you find your dagger that I packed for you?"

"Yes, but I'm not going to wear it." Julie gestured to it on the table. "You wear it. Anyone who knows me knows that I really don't need it, even though it's Imperium tradition... I'm trying to save our necks here. Besides, you are my right hand in most matters anyway, if anyone would need a ready weapon it would be you."

Olivia smirked and shook her head. "You know on Terra Alpha we actually have a classification, LX. Lethal without weapon. I actually have to wear a pin when I go into a government facility that identifies that. So did Arisu and Marcus. I never did forget all those times you dropped me into a training sim in my night clothes or in my underwear after a shower. Scaring me out of my wits with only a padd with instructions. You were not the greatest mother, but you did train me to be ready for anything. So thank you. Needless to say I am not doing that to my children."

"I taught you to survive Olivia. Ever since I became a part of this. I knew even then that someday you and I would be on opposite sides, there's too much of your father in you although all the best attributes came from me. Your attractiveness, your fast metabolism, your martial skill, even your better eye sight... my side of the family." Julie said and straightened out her frock coat. "Perhaps if you actually gave me a chance, maybe we could have come to this mediation far sooner, because we could have worked together."

"You sent my husband into a rift you twisted woman... you really think I would work with you, willingly?" Olivia crossed her arms. "I'm only here because I heard what was going on and I really didn't want to give you an excuse to back out of it. Honestly, I came here to try and find a way to get you out of the picture, but half your government is either worthless in terms of leadership, they look to you instead of figuring out things for themselves OR they're corrupt beyond belief. You want to change the Imperium, then I want to see it. But do not think after all this I am going to let you ..."

"Alright that's enough... look, I'm trying something to do something so we all save some face. So shut up, smile, and just go with it. You hate me, fine. I'll accept that. I hate me too. Sometime you have your half transporter clone that looks like you, that lived in your head for thirty years tell you that you're an utter bitch and all those risks that I took were her way of killing me... it screws with your head. So listen... just... be civil. Alright? Like it or not we are still family and you DO know what Ohana means."

"Right." Olivia grumbled and crossed her arms. "I suppose that's why you didn't order my execution."

"Exactly. I lost Marcus too you know. And I do have a death warrant out for Cross, you may have forgiven him, but I haven't. Same with K'n'zy. I killed 20 of her clones that Tiberius had created. The real one is still out there somewhere. And she won't get our new humane Imperium justice. Her head is going on a pike." Julie said bitterly. "Now... let's get through this day without bloodshed hmm?" She gestured. "Claire, lead us out."

Magus stiffened as the Imperium delegation approached. He glanced as the captain of his guard and the Narlin nodded curtly. His armor was identical to that of his fellow guardsmen, but there was a plume of course blonde hair affixed to his helmet that cascaded halfway down his back. He also didn't carry a shield.

"Drago bin fel!" The captain shouted. The two columns of guardsmen snapped to attention with a "shing" and "clang" of chain and plate mail. Their shields poped their chest plates in unison.

"Drago fin swaze tel'al rin cul!"

This time the guards turned to face each other and drawing their swords in the traditional salute to a superior or visiting head of state.

"Impressive display." Julie commented as she walked through the guards, her long black and red frock coat swishing as she walked, the high heels of her boots were almost silent, but her presence made a far bigger impact. It was really the first time since war began that she appeared in public on a non Imperium led world as herself. Not as a hologram or LMD. Her head was held high, her movements measured and purposeful. For a former spy, she exuded a royal bearing.

Olivia followed behind her, almost as a guard. She was offered an old Starfleet uniform, but refused. Opting to wear a pair of tight fitting slacks, polished flats, a short jacket with a leather and sheer fabric blouse underneath, her Alliance Naval Intelligence badge clipped to her belt as always. Kalia had picked out the outfit for her, as it was tight enough and minimalistic enough to let her go by unchecked for weapons as there were no real hiding places. Not that she needed a weapon if she chose.

"Magus Stormtalon... a pleasure to see you again." Julie said with a slight nod of her head as she approached him. "I must say you put on an impressive display. I feel honored."

"The man was always late." Julie shrugged her shoulders and grumbled. "OR he wants to make an entrance."

No sooner had she said that, the Alliance anthem played and President Ryder came in flanked by Tony and his father Leo. Tony wearing a custom suit of armor under his tailored business suit and Nick with a crisp light grey suit and a white shirt and matching tie.

"Emperor... Ex-Wife... I mean Empress." Nick said as he approached her and cocked his head slightly. "Don't mind Tony, he insisted on wearing his armor." he gestured to him. "Can't take the heat."

"Never could." Julie replied and shook her head, gesturing to Olivia. "See, not a mark on her. Where's Kalia?"

"She's not coming to this. Leg over heated or something, ma's got her in the med tent. How'd that happen?" Nick whispered.

"Accident, she was young and foolish."

"Time Dilation Camp eh?" Tony clicked with his tongue. "Those have to be shut down."

"That's for us to negotiate." Julie said and put her arm behind Stormtalon's back. "Any other pageantry or shall we get to work?"
