Rebecca only nodded and pulled out a tricorder thankful to actually have a purpose. "This attack wasn't one of us," she assured. "If was was one of our people it wasn't sanctioned by the executive branch, and it wasn't under Tomarrah's command." "Hmm..." Rebecca thought. She dragged a chair over. "I know who designed this. I recognize the work anywhere. It's overly complicated. The more bells and whistles you install the more apt they are to muck up the whole process. Sit." |

"Only thing good about this leg is that it looks realistic, otherwise... I'd almost rather prefer a hover chair, but not everything is really set up for that." Kalia shrugged her shoulders. "And mother thinks it makes me look a bit... not exactly weak, but let's just say it doesn't make me seem very Imperial. Plus I'm a horrible chair driver. Horrible driver period, sort of how I ended up with this." she looked into Becca's eyes. "I can see a lot of Ethan in you. So unlike the other Alliance officers we've encountered." she blushed slightly. "Although I did really want to slap him around the first couple of times I encountered him. All cowboy bluster and stoicism. Refused treatment, refused new limbs, BUT we convinced him to take the new limbs, new job... my brother Kaikoa sort of watches over him now and again. It really opened my eyes, the Alliance and the Imperium can co-exist, in some ways I think I maybe we need each other. Keep each other honest. Give people a choice. I never really grew up in the Federation, but it seemed like it was getting a bit too large and too inclusive to the detriment of the other member worlds. Earth was losing a lot. Even some of the other worlds, Andoria, Rigel, even Trill... which I do think the Imperium was entirely in the wrong with that occupation, what they did to those symbionts... that's not what the Imperium should be about. But that Tiberius all the way. I'm almost... glad that his DNA was extracted from me, I don't think I could quite tolerate being related to him." |

"Eh, you never met our JT Kirk... he's a pretty decent guy." Eli said and chuckled lightly. "I must say you are entirely different than I expected." "I love shattering expectations. Wait until there's a formal event and I show up in leather and fishnets... mother tells me that I'm too much like her for my own good and I'm not entirely sure that's a compliment or a cut." Kalia said and winked. "Although I DO wear the fishnets for three reasons. One. It's far easier to make adjustments to my leg. Two. They drive my mother up a wall. Three... I kind of like the attention I get." Kalia said and sighed. "Despite everyone's best efforts, I want this war to end. I was indoctrinated into the 'rah-rah-Alliance sucks' way of thinking and all I ever see... and I mean EVER see is you guys actually doing things to help people... like this." she gestured to Becca. "No one I have ever served with, not in the TiDi Camp, not in the White House, not even my brother has helped me like this. Out of the goodness of their heart." "Sounds like you want to defect." Eli raised an eyebrow. "Never said that and I do believe in some of what the Imperium is doing." Kalia said and mirrored his eyebrow raise. "Are you... flirting with me Agent Mathers?" "Hah. No. Not that I wouldn't... but... my girlfriend is in the other room after she saved your mother. So yeah... I'm not going to fuck that up." Eli replied. "That girl would murder you." Kalia said with a grin and then winced. "Oh... I haven't had feeling like that in my leg in a while... what did you do Miz Talon?" Edited by Eli Mathers, Mar 12 2016, 04:42 PM.

Rebecca looked up confused for a moment having been absorbed in the task at hand. "Huh? Oh, I removed this." She held up a tiny circuit. "The prosthetic won't function aa itvwas designed now, but it wasn't functioning like it was supposed to anyway." She pulled out a tool from the small leather tool kit she kept on her and bypassed the faulty circuits. "You should get with Tony while we are all here and get an AlphaTech design. Nick and I designed many of the components as part of our Bio-engineering classes at the Academy. Of course Tony refined the idea and now they are used on all of our amputees." Rebecca stood, pleased with herself. You'll probably walk with a slight gimp now, but the cane shouldn't be necessary. " |

"If I could that would be great... although I do not know if I would trust it once I leave here. That virus Captain Ryder released that pretty much nuked anything AlphaTek is still floating around our systems." Kalia said as she tested out the leg and noticed the slight limp but at least it was sturdy again. "Thank you so much though... this is a lot better than it was. If only everything could be fixed as easily." |

"No thank you. I needed the distraction. And I have to be honest with you. Retirement is all that it's cracked up to be. I advise the president and Tomarrah, but that's it. I feel useless most days, so it felt good doing something. And with the shooting.... well let's just say mending circuits make much better inner thoughts." |

"The way my mother practically hisses your name, you really don't seem to be the bitch she made you out to be." Kalia whispered. "Of course, I suspect she may have been maybe a little jealous of you. After all you and the President do seem very similar in skillsets. Even if there was never anything romantic, mother does have a jealous streak." she looked at her leg and stroked it slightly. "I guess it is starting to sink in that if Miss Cross wasn't in the line of fire... my mother would be dead. I don't think the same system that saved your Kinsey Calhoun or mother herself more than once, is working on this island. If she died, then power would shift to myself, at least until I got back to Earth and then the protocols would go into play, but... that's part of the reason I was brought along, insurance. On both sides. Us Legacies would be activated, to keep things going or to ensure that mother was properly transferred to a new clone body." |

"Well that's all fine and focking dandy... maybe we should have any one of the number of assassins on this planet take her out and deal with you." Malcolm said as he walked over. "That girl that took that bullet is worth ten of ye... President loves 'er like a daughter, but she's one of my few best friends. And I don't take to losin' my best friends lightly. She dies, I unleash all the PR forces of hell and darkness upon the Imperium and heaven help ye." "Malcolm... heel." Nick raised his hand and rolled his eyes. "Isabella is doing better, mom just messaged me. She's out of surgery and in the recovery room." "I'm going to see her." Malcolm said and abruptly walked out and headed for the hut that was a recovery room. He had a look of grim determination as he made his way past the guards and the nurses. "Sir, you really shouldn't go in, she's trying to rest." one of the nurses said but was shoved aside. "Out of my bloody way." he snarled and went in. Isabella was still connected to wires and monitors, she looked so pale. Walking over to her bed side he gently held her hand. "Y'listen to me Cross, you focking stay strong. Yuir one of the strongest women on this planet right now, yuir so full of piss and vinegar and sheer will that ye will recover and quickly. Lei isn't worth your life. Just... get better lass." he gently kissed her forehead. "I actually told people y'were my best friend. And that's not a lie." |

"Nicholas," Rebecca sighed looking at the president. "I love Malcolm, but does he ever have an off switch to that... that what ever that was?" Rebecca shook her head, "Cussing someone who had nothing to do with this lacks all chivalry. What Isibella did was beyond brave, and she probably prevented an escalation of this war or utter destruction of earth, but it isn't this woman's fault and shockingly this time it isn't even your ex's. Speaking of which, where's Julie?" Edited by Rebecca Talon, Mar 24 2016, 10:59 PM.

"Conferring with her people, as I suppose we should do." Nick said and crossed his arms as he looked at the door. "Malcolm means well, but yeah... for a communications director, he's so fond of the eff word." he chuckled lightly. "So's Bella, they can turn that word into sooo many things. You should see the Christmas gifts their swear barrel brought in for the orphans fund." he sighed as he thought about that. "Speaking of orphans... this is a dark thought... Kalia is one of some untold number of children Julie had fertilized and then used Time Dilation to grow to maturity. How many children does she have now that we don't know of... ?" "That scares the hell out of me." Olivia said as she walked over to them. "I privately asked Kinsey and Jonas to look into it. Mother doesn't suspect that she knows that we neutralized her hold on them." she whispered and leaned into Becca's ear. "I also found a file when I was on Earth... you were supposed to be promoted to Fleet Admiral. But Julie had a friend within the Admirality board, rejected your promotion. Guess who that friend was? Your... baby daddy's grandfather." |

Julie came back in, her hair up in a tight bun and a new outfit on as she looked around. "Sorry... I had to wash Miss Cross's blood out. Kalia... I might have suspected you'd be here." "I thought I was free to move around as I wished... and Mrs Talon was able to fix my leg, at least enough." Kalia said with a smile. "She always was good at that sort of thing." Julie said and approached Becca and looked her in the eye. "I'm not trading children here. I would hope you're not trying to make her defect." "Always paranoid." Nick said with a roll of his eyes as he walked up to her. "What's it to you? She's a grown woman, such as it is, she's capable of making her own choices. Just like I am choosing to believe that you had no knowledge of any kind of assassination plans, otherwise your people would be keeping you under lock and key." "Or they think I know how to defend myself." Julie said with a huff. "Just like you, or did you get soft since the divorce?" "We can go right here." Nick said as he clenched his fist. "You'd like that wouldn't you? A knock down drag out on camera would be lovely for your polling numbers. Look like you're actually DOING something." Julie said and handed him a padd. "I have two conditions since this. One, we get Tiberius and this shooter. Two... if I find my sister and the POW's she's taken, the POWs go home, but she remains in their stead. Same with Kinsey, at least until Tiberius influence is entirely eradicated. So I would hope whoever she got to replace her is decent because Arisu is never returning to Terra Alpha. At least as long as I am alive." |

"I can't agree to that, because I have no idea where Arisu is." Nick said as he put his hands on his hips. "Even if I did know and she was on Earth, you really think I'm going to turn her over to you?" "Needs of the many Nicholas." Julie said simply. "And she IS my sister, do you really think I would do anything THAT bad to her?" "We all thought you lobotomized Rumiko." Nick countered "And you're thankful I didn't." Julie said and sighed. "The fact of the matter is this, if she IS on Earth, it's without your authorization or knowledge or order. Correct?" "Right..." "Then that means she's gone 'off the reservation' as we used to say, so that means if she IS captured, she's disavowed and basically burned. That IS how we did things back in the day. And why I faked my death so many times." Julie said and turned around. "Of course, if she IS aiding the rebellion on Earth, then that also makes her an enemy combatant and well... I may not personally have her killed, but she's there at her own risk. One lucky shot and then I'm the sole Lei sister on Planet Earth. I told you about having a Kinsey clone because I am positive she would find a way to tell you somehow. I'm not even shocked that Olivia made it to Earth, no doubt with others. Which I am... not going to act on because it's what I would do in her place." "Then why are you focused on Arisu?" Nick raised an eyebrow "Because there is and was always more to her than you realized. You saw a skilled spy turned spymaster, but you only really knew a portion of what she was capable of and even SHE is only aware of a portion of what she's capable of as well." Julie looked at her nails and glanced at Nick and Becca. "I am the eldest of the three, she was the baby sister. I've always protected her. Why do you think there were so many of my people within H.I.? A part of it was my way of protecting baby sister. Not that I wanted her to get too close of course, but I knew that there would be those that would force her hand or mine. I must say, I am shocked that you put her in such a high position. And I will admit, I was furious... because it only confirmed that something DID go on between you two. And I know it did. I also know that ever since you got involved with that child-bride you've been pretty loyal. All the attractive, strong women you surround yourself with and not once have you cheated. At least that I've been able to dig up." "For a woman that told me once that she could give a rat's ass about me, you sure care an awful lot about my personal life." Nick countered. "Because you tend to put your personal life and your friendships and liaisons into positions of power. Your wife holds considerable influence over a number of things. Including public opinions. I see your newsfeeds. Alice is seen wearing lacy stockings, suddenly everyone is wearing them. Alice wears wedge heels to an event, suddenly wedge heels are all the rage. She wears a Spider-Man t-shirt, suddenly everyone is wearing them. You two are cultural icons. More than either of you realize. You're actually idolized by your citizens. Win or lose this election, you will still have considerable influence and cache to do whatever you wish." "Unlike you who kill your rivals..." Nick crossed his arms. "That was the... old me. New me is much more... pragmatic. Why do you think I even agreed to all this. Certainly wasn't because it's a power play. I'm giving up a lot, some of my people may even see this as weakness. You meet my very minimal terms, then I will allow... partial trade with Earth. We'll dust off one of the old outposts, perhaps the Jupiter station to be used as a trading post. You need things we have the same as we need things you have. This is very win win." Julie pointed to Becca. "Although some of what we need was taken away or damaged by her on her 'March to the Sea' last year. There are factions that would love to see her tried, convicted and executed, but... she is an influential member of your cabinet and her baby daddy's father and grandfather were considerably well liked. Even if he wasn't. I would alienate both our sides by doing that. Also... I feel bad about our falling out. We all used to be friends." "Before you became something that I never thought you were." Nick said coldly. "Nicholas, I always was this. I always did what had to be done. I always had a... grey moral code. You chose to the see the best in me, which was your thinking not mine. I did care for you, even loved you. But you were not the man that I needed. Sure I thought maybe your way of thinking was better... and I loved being a mother. But then I saw what was happening to my planet, to our people. Look at Dr. Tana, half human and half Orion. Her human and Orion sides are almost always at war and her pheromones are even more potent because of it. Trust me, I investigated all of my daughters' friends. If her mother wasn't famous I would have found a way to end that friendship. At least she married a Terran." she sniffed. "Olivia married that Furyan. Have you ever thought what life would be like for those half breed children of her's? Augment DNA mixed with Furyan? Even Xenexian and Terran DNA, which worked out splendidly but... I know what my Jackson needed to do to that bitch K'n'zy to get her to conceive, it was far more... aggressive than what Jack did to his Kinsey. But look at the offspring it created, Carly... probably the most powerful telepath in existence. And you have both of them. Although you were not there when the headaches started when she was a child. The pain she was in. Jackson removed memory of all that, but the girl was almost about to be euthanized because she was in such agonizing pain." "Why are you telling me this?" Nick questioned "BECAUSE Nicholas... Humans and other species are not meant to mix. It weakens the Terran gene pool, there are viruses and illnesses that are turning far far worse because of it all. You think this is some racist shit, but it's not just that. This is survival and dammit I will not see Humanity die off or Earth become uninhabitable because we were TOO open and too accepting. There are also other threats out there just waiting for us to wipe ourselves out. Far worse threats that are biding their time because they know right now we're strong enough to oppose them, but... once we get to a certain point of weakness... they will strike. Take the opportunity." "And what are these threats?" Nick said and crossed his arms. "All I ever hear are vague threats of an unknown enemy." "They exist, that's all I can say, but I've heard much more about whatever they are than you have, because I actually have the authority to listen." Julie said and put her hand on his shoulder. "I am proposing a cease fire, not an end, just a... halting for now. Aggression will be met with aggression of course, but peaceful encounters will be met peacefully. Let us rebuild, we will give you time to rebuild and perhaps save some face, after all your Alliance does state that no 'war loving' worlds are to be members... keep this up, no one will be able to be a part of your alliance, including Terra Alpha." |

Rebecca sighed, "Julie, I'm not a member of the president's cabinet although he does from time to time listen to what I have to say, and then usually does what he wants anyway. As far as getting your daughter to defect I apologize if that is what it seemed. I simply saw someone in need of help and did what I could." "Kalia, would you join us?" Rebecca called and then led the trio over to a corner. Rebecca looked her long time foe over with a critical eye. "I have never trusted you, but maybe it's time for us all to... It's time for second chances. As you know I am important to the Narlins. As such Stormtalon will talk to me from time to time. I don't know what influenced their sacred book. Maybe some time traveler maybe it was Narla, but the predictions are freaky accurate. I know he spoke to you about his fears. There is a greater threat out there. Let's stop with the posturing. The demands for this and that. Let's give our children a future. You want to preserve the Human genome? I get it. I'm with you. It should be preserved. I would have gone about it differently, but I agree with the sentiment. Julie I forgive you. I wish to let our past be just that, the past. I'm not saying let's be friends, but let us not be adversaries either. For now let's agree to prisoner exchanges, open trade and possibly military protection of each other's borders. Not allies. I don't think either of our people could stomach that, but not at each other's throats and there to lend a hand if necessary. Maybe something like an early 21st century equivalent of the United States and the Russian Federation?" Rebecca sat upon a nearby bench and let out a long sigh. Age was catching up with her, and the war was not helping that. She was growing weary of the death and bad news. "Julie," she started softly. "Tell me about my son. Tell me how Ethan is doing?"
