"Unless that's an alias he's going by no... my husband, Admiral Nicholas Ryder is in there... unless the big fucking tree is cheating on me." Julie said with a glare.

"Whoa... whoa whoa..." Nick said as he opened the door. "The hell Julie?"

"This one of your whores?" Julie pointed to Kat.

"No... I don't know who she is. Holy crap, you think I'm the one who has affairs in this relationship?" Nick raised an eyebrow at her. "I'm sorry... Miss...? My wife is... nuts."

"I'll show you nuts..." Julie said and kicked him in the balls and then walked into his apartment.

With Julie's back to them Kat winked at Nick, and mouthed "Becca" before joining in, "Ye ain't Colum. What in the bloody hell are you doing in me cousin's apartment?"

"I think you may be on the wrong deck..." Nick winced as he gave her a wink and held himself. "I remember seeing that name on the registry a floor down, same room." he said and nodded his head and shook his head. "FSS" he whispered and pointed to his apartment.

"What a wee bissom," Kat said under her breath, but loud enough for Julie to hear.

She dug into her purse, and scrawled the contact information for her third cousin who really was Laoghaire McKenzie. She knew Julie would likely follow up on her, and the last thing she needed was for Mrs. Ryder to get suspicious.

Concealed under the note was a pair of wristbands. One of five Alpha Tech prototype "Iron Man Armor" suits that incorporated nano and replicator technology. This particular pair had been given to Rebecca Sandoval, who in turn given them to Captain Katherine Donovan for this mission.

Placing the whole set in Nick's hand, she gave him a flirtatious smile, and a lingering caress of the back of his hand. She knew she didn't need to do that, but she also knew it would piss Julie off.

"Ye are a tall drink of handsome laddie. When yer are done with yer wee bitch of a wife call me." With that she turned and started down the hall shaking her goods.

Nick rolled his eyes and slipped the bands into his pocket, he had to give it to his brother although it was dirty as hell for Becca to send Donovan, gorgeous as she is and knowing exactly the kind of jealous woman his 'dear wife' was. He'd remember this.

"Really make an impression Jules..." Nick said as he put her 'cousin's contact info on the counter and looked around for her, only to see her standing in the doorway of his bedroom naked save for her heels.

"Why don't I remind you why you married me and I'll make you forget allllll about pretty redheads." Julie said with a saucy smile.

"You thought she was pretty?" Nick raised an eyebrow as he crossed the distance towards her. He knew what she was doing, but it had been a really really long time since the two of them were intimate in any way shape or form.

"If I was into that sort of thing." Julie said and took his hand, pulled him close and kissed him on the lips passionately, wrapping her leg around his as she pulled him closer to her body. "You aren't into that sort of thing... are you darling?"

"Not in the slightest." Nick said as he broke off the kiss and took a breath. "Remind me again why I married you..." she said with a grin.

"C'mon Ryder... she wasn't wrong you are a tall drink of handsome... I even kinda think the stubble is kind of sexy. You're shaving it off in the morning... but... I would take you home." Julie said seductively as she pulled him to the bed.

Kat had discovered that the apartment directly above the Ryders was empty and with a small pinch phaser she busted the lock and entered.

Using her ocular implant again she peered through the floor keeping tabs on Nick. He and Julie were in mid coitus, and she shuddered and looked away.

Donovan had lost her right eye, and her right arm from the elbow down thanks to a Jem'hadar Houdini mine during the Dominion war.

Sliding her back down the wall she adjusted to get comfortable. Tapping a sub-dermal implant on her left wrist she spoke, "Donovan to Sergeant Leisten I'm going to need a combat suit. Beam one down with both a type 1 and type 3 phaser."

"Undstood Cap. Leisten out."

Moments later a pile of supplies arrived, and Kat stood and suited up. She took a moment to check on Nick before digging into the Starflert rations.

The Gand Hall of the Narlin Empire was silent. The torches of flame creating dancing light upon the ancient stone walls. At the end of the hall was a black marble throan that was older than the hall itself dating back to the Kings of Talaria.

A large table sat in the center of the room flanked by two open hearths with a comforting blaze popping. The hall had been constructed 1,500 years ago long before the first electric lights or central heating. It was often cold even in summer.

Two figures sat ninety degrees of each other with a massive Narlin sitting at the head. He made his companion, a human female with blazing red hair, look doll tiny next to him.

"I thank you for those replicators," Magus Stormtalon spoke softly.

She smiled and placed a friendly hand on Magus' left arm, "Any time my friend. Getting the Federation to help your people is like pulling teeth," Rebecca Sandoval continued.

"It does appear that way, but still I am indebted to you."

"Listen Magus," Rebecca started. "There is something going on in the Federation. I don't know how serious it is right now."

"What sort of thing?" The emperor asked. "Do you need our help?"

"No," she shook her head, and sighed, "Sorta. I need you to withdraw the Empire's application to join the Federation."

"Becca, you know how much this will mean for our people. So many are not getting their basic needs met."

Rebecca sat back in her chair and sighed. "I know."

"Becca," he continued, "I don't have that kind of unilateral power anyway. I am only the head of the House of Lords. The House of Commons and the Prime Minister can override me."

"Unless you take back your power. The Commons and the Prime Minister rule under your authority."

"You have been studying," Magus replied.

Rebecca shrugged, "The United Kingdom on earth had a similar arrangement."

Magus nodded, "I will try to stall it in the House of Lords. The nobles will follow my example, and I will work with the elected ministers to sway as many as I can. I am on good terms with the majority of them and I think they will listen to me. So, what's going on?"

Rebecca shrugged, "Hard to say exactly. I'm working on that with Nicholas Ryder. The Erebus was attacked today by and anti-alien organization and, it isn't the first attack. I know Nick and Tony have a contingency plan for a just in case scenario. He doesn't tell me every little 'what if' plan he has rattling around in his head, but I am willing to bet it involves that planet they terra formed a while back."

"Terra Alpha isn't it?" Magus asked as he lifted his cup of ale to his lips.

Rebecca nodded. "He's got a portable dry dock that is meeting the Erebus there. After this recent attack I wanted to get the ship away from Earth right now."

"Who are these people?"

"Too soon to say. But, I have my suspicions, and the way Nick was acting I think he feels the same way I do. He is working an angle, and I have someone watching his back."

Magus nodded and refilled his cup from a nearby decanter. He offered to refill Rebecca's, but she waved him off. "Magus I don't want to you get mixed up in all of this, but if I call to you can I count on you as an ally?"

Magus smiled and placed a giant hand on her shoulder, "Of course! I can even call up our military for an 'excersize' if you need them."

"Thank you Magus," she replied and took a sip of the pungent Narlin ale.

"Where is your young ensign?" Magus asked changing the subject.

"I noticed she was admiring your Duke of Kormel," Rebecca replied with a grin.

Magus laughed, "My nephew does have a way with the ladies."

He pressed a button on the table and a young Nalrin female with violet features entered. The Narlin was wearing a military uniform with a Sub-Lieutenant rank on her collar. She bowed politely, "yes my liege?"

"Aw Kahlina, could you tell the kitchen that we are ready to eat, and if you see young Ensign Lee let her know that we are about to eat."

Kahlina nodded and smiled to Rebecca before walking out of the hall with a heavy thud of wooden doors as they came to a close.

Magus shook his head, "She reminds me of my daughter. And this duty really is beneath her. Her talents would be best served elsewhere."

"We do have the officer exchange program," Rebecca suggested. "I served three months on the IKS Klang. Living with Klingons is interesting to say the least, and they aren't as honorable as they want us to believe."

Magus chuckled, "I will let her know. It's too bad Kahlina doesn't have a noble birth. She would make an excellent ally in the House of Lords."

Rebecca sat back amused, cup in hand, "There are plenty of demesne that are lordless and under your control."

This time Magus shrugged, "An interesting thought."

Servants interrupted the conversation as they carried in trays heaped with various food. Very little of it was replicated. The vegetables were from the palace gardens, and a fat roasted kan'ear was placed on the center of table by two servants. The kan'ear was very similar to the earth pig or Klingon targ, and had a soft sweet earthy flavor.

Lords and their consorts started filling the hall, and the silence was broken by the hum of dozens of overlapping voices. This was a semi-informal meeting so they were not introduced by the palace crier one by one as was the custom of state dinners.

Because Magus was no longer one on one with Becca chrome plated guards followed the guests into the hall and stood motionless as pairs at the doors and to the back of Magus. Their pikes gleaming off of the firelight.

It was not the first time it took Rebecca back to see this ancient technology married with the modern. The Narlins were inexplicably obsessed with tradition.

Julie woke up before Nick did, she usually did after they had sex. They'd both pass out after a few rounds, but then she'd somehow wake up a few hours later. Not even bothering to get dressed, she padded out of the bedroom and into the small living area and went to the replicator and ordered up some tea. Glancing at her backside the mirror she breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't really pay too much attention to some of the redness and fresh marks on her body. Of course, she always had any number of fresh bruises, cuts, scrapes and the like. Still, she should have talked about cheating... how many times did she wake up in her new SO's quarters. There were times when she felt like two women in the same body.

Sipping her tea, she loaded the news onto a padd and sat down on a chair and propped her feet up on the table. It was 'unladylike' but she really didn't care. The attack that Nick mentioned did go through her head, she heard some rumors but they were just that rumors. Although given who her husband was and how his personality was, he wouldn't stop until he had some answers. Running her hand through her hair she thought of which agent should could 'give' them, let them feel like they got something, and keep the heat off the FSS agency as a whole.

Of course that would also mean she'd look like she was 'narc'ing' on her own. But... she did hold quite a bit of pull and even her husband had no idea just how things operated since they never truly let him in, other than as a loaner from Section 31, whom they loved to pin the bad stuff on. But Director V'Pier would be a challenge, being a Changling, he would be able to pretend to be anyone and find out if she was not being honest...

Nick woke up not too much later and got himself dressed for the day, despite it being around four in the morning. He still had his Admiral's jacket open and was shaving as he walked into the kitchenette. "Room's paid for through tomorrow." he said as he replicated a coffee for himself. "So... "

"So what?" Julie said as she glanced over at him.

"So... are we going to talk about this." Nick said as he leaned on the counter and looked at her. "One of your guys blew himself him to kill an a Gorn Starfleet officer. You going to help me with this investigation? Before IA gets involved?"

"Yeah... last thing we need is the FSS getting too much spotlight put on it, we work best when we're shadows." Julie replied and took a sip of her tea and sighed. "It did feel... good... being with you last night."

"Imagine that." Nick deadpanned as he sipped his coffee. "19 years of marriage... you think we'd have good chemistry."

"Nick... can we both be honest with each other." Julie said and sighed as she crossed her legs. "What the hell are we doing? We spend more time apart than we do together, which seems to suit us both just fine. Maybe 19 years is enough?"

"The vows were until death do us part." Nick reminded her and winked his eye. "And you renewed those vows after you died. Twice."

"That was going to be my joke. 'I already died like twice...'" Julie chuckled and shook her head. "You kinda already got what you wanted. Angelica is going to be your right hand girl. Already sort of is, I take it. Olivia's going to start actively training and take an Intelligence track in the Academy. Of course Marcus already told his recruiter to fuck off, so he's either going to be fixing motorcyles for a living or hitchhiking... or mooching off the Newsteads."

"I've already taken care of Kirby." Nick replied with a nod of his head.

"I'm rather amused that her code name is Angel Alpha. Your second daughter." Julie rolled her eyes. "She's got it in her to be a great agent... "

"Yeah but she'd rather work with us." Nick replied and crossed his arms. "It's funny how you don't even mention Jack."

"Jack's in England more than he's home and he's barely out of high school. Besides, you got May's clan keeping an eye on him. He'll probably be a doctor a scientist or something. Doubtful he'll get into Black Ops like us." Julie said with a touch of disappointment in her voice.

"Yeah, he may actually do something altrustic and constructive... " Nick said and played with his wedding ring. "You do know that we have space for you in the agency. You don't need to stick with the FSS. When have they ever been good for either of us."

"Pity you had to be so damn good at Command and with your creations..." Julie said with a wink. "Could chuck it all and join me. I thought you adored me?"

"I do. But I also have responsibilities to the Fleet and we're doing work that needs to be done. Or need I remind you how many times my Fleet has saved your asses?" Nick said as he walked over to her and sat across from the table from her. "We did pretty well working together in Python."

"Yeah until that went to shit." Julie sighed. "Nick... I don't know why you think the FSS is this evil agency. You work for Section 31..."

"Reformed Section 31... we're less evil since Director V'Pier reformed the agency." Nick said as he sipped his coffee.

"Word within the community, you were his right hand during all that." Julie said over her tea mug.

"I wouldn't say right hand, but I helped. So did our old Black ANGELS team. Ari and Ru miss working with you like that." Nick said and looked into her brown eyes. "Work with me on this, be like the old days. Maybe actually sleep in the same bed more often than not. Angel is a natural in uniform, guess our training paid off."

"Alright... I'll help. Just need to keep this on the down low. Okay?" Julie finished her tea and looked at Nick. "IF and I'm only saying IF there are other FSS sympathetic to this anti-alien thing... could end badly for all of us. Of course, you really don't need my help... you have a huge network on your own..."

"I do... but you're my wife. And this could affect us all. I don't want a divorce. I don't want a separation. Our kids are old enough to know what our lives are really like and that this isn't easy, but we've always told them... if it's worth doing, it's worth making it work. So... I want to make this work. That you aren't the 'Queen of Evil' that others keep telling me you are." Nick chuckled lightly. "What did you do to piss off so many people?"

"My job. I'm not exactly an angel when it comes to what I do. You knew that going in. Was seventeen when I did my first assassination for the Federation Secret Service... " Julie sighed and looked at her finger. "Don't worry my ring is safe. I just take it off when I'm on mission."

"I know..." Nick said, knowing full well what 'on mission' entailed. "Doesn't mean I have to like it, but I accept it."

"Then you also need to accept that... maybe I don't entirely disagree with the FSS and some of their stances. We have to be harsher, more aggressive when are threatened. Dominion War has been over for a very long time and we're still rebuilding some planets. Earth still has warnings up from those days." Julie said and got up from her chair. "Earth is still vulnerable and always the first main target. Of course when we have so many of so many other planets there, it's really only to act like a... message if they hit us there, not because they particularly fear Terrans."

"Why should anyone have to fear us?" Nick raised an eyebrow in reply. "The bad guys sure... but why should anyone else?"

"Nevermind..." Julie shook her head. "Let me get dressed and we can go and find you some answers."

"Right." Nick said as he watched her go into the bedroom. Touching his fingers to the gauntlet he was give by Donovan he wondered just how involved his wife truly was...

Angel was more than a little nervous, being in the Grand Hall of the Narlin Empire. She was on other planets before, but not without her parents. This was the first time she was on her own, with a real uniform, badge. A rank. The Duke of Kormel was charming in his own way, but she was still in awe of what she saw. And the Narlins were a fascinating people. She really hoped that someday they would join the Federation. They certainly needed it.

Seeing the others file into the hall, she figured she may as well rejoin Admiral Sandoval. The two of them were probably the smallest people in the room, yet the way she carried herself, Becca seemed to be just as tall and powerful as the Narlins. They saw her as someone special too. Taking a breath, she set her shoulders and walked in with just as much nobility and confidence as she had been trained to do by her mother. Normally she would have worn flat boots, but the heel, gave her a slight height boost and made her presence a bit more known.

"Admiral. Emperor." Angel said as she approached them. "This is an impressive place... thank you for letting us visit."

"Was it in better shape or worse? I'm in awe... and I've seen some gorgeous architecture traveling with my father." Angel said as she smiled up at him. "Although I am in awe at your armor and the fabrics... you don't see craftsmanship like that anymore. Everything is pressed or replicated and has no soul." she blushed slightly. "I spent my sophomore and junior years of high school studying textiles and armor craft. I used to think early Romulan was beautiful but this... it's on a whole other level of beauty and intricacy."
