"Yes please, I haven't had nearly as much coffee as I usually do." Angel said with a smile and sat down with a laugh. "That ale was good. Reminded me of a brew my father brought home that someone made for him. I actually felt a bit of a buzz." she shrugged her shoulders. "I got my dad's iron liver. Don't tell him that I sort of already tested my tolerances... Olivia and I... kind of raided grandpa's bar." she blushed. "So I take it mom and dad are alright... was a little worried." she closed her eyes. "Aunt Becca... " she said, using her usual way of addressing her instead of Admiral. "I think my dad is using mom, like she's using him. They only do the sort of 'marathon' sessions when they both want something from the other. Dad usually just wants her to stay close, but she... usually wants him to do something for her, or not bring something up. I don't think she'd hurt him but... maybe you should send that Marine to keep an eye on some of her 'friends'."

Angel looked at a bracelet she had on. "I remember making some comment around her and some of her team mates, how I enjoyed working with the Andorian engineering corps on that one summer project last year. And they made some comment, didn't really think much of it at the time, but they were incredibly racist. And how they're the only agency that doesn't have non Terrans in their leadership. Starfleet Intelligence has Trill, even Section 31 has a Changling and Klingons and Romulans working with my father. Course, they're not the same Section 31 from the Dominion War... but still. V'Pier helped create that Founder Virus to help end the war, to prove to themselves they weren't 'Gods' like the Vorta treated them, they had a weakness." she frowned. "Is this racist group our Founder Virus?"

Rebecca frowned and handed her the coffee. She sipped her own and sighed, "Racism is part of the human condition. Most of us are smart enough to know that it's bull crap."

Rebecca handed her a tray with cream and sugar packets. "Look, I don't think your mom is involved," she lied. The truth was that she just didn't know, and she had long ago learned not to put anything past Julie Lei. Not since that time Freshman year.

"My sources are looking at this Tiberius, and there hasn't been any mention of your mother. Not from Starfleet Intelligence, nor from the Obsidian Order, or the Talshiar. Your dad just wanted to be certain. His peace of mind I suppose."

"That makes me feel a little better." Angel said softly and sipped her coffee. "Becca... I'm glad I signed on to do this. I used to think I wanted to be like dad, follow in his footsteps but... the more time I spend with you in uniform. You're kind of turning into my role model now. If I turn out to be half the officer you are... " she smiled and looked her in the eyes. "I won't let you down. I know I'm just a green cadet technically but I want to be a Captain by the time I'm thirty five. Beat dad by a year or so. And I want to do whatever I can to foster relationships like what you have with the Narlins. Part of the solution."

"It's good to look up to someone," Rebecca stated. "But, you need to find your own way. What works for you. You want to be a captain? Everyone wants to be a captain. How are you going to go about getting that fourth pip?"

"Working my ass off. Learning everything I'm able to. Why do you think I wanted to be a Yeoman? I've already learned quite a bit just shadowing my father." Angel said and smiled slightly. "Like I said, it's a goal, I may never get to that rank by that time or at all. But I want to be useful, I want to actually do something. I've seen what both of you have had to put up with over the years, that doesn't bother me, well maybe a little. But... I want to be in a position where I can show that even if we're getting a lot of sadly racist officers around... there is still one who isn't."

She pulled off her jacket, folded it in half, and draped it over the back of a chair. Rebecca sat on the edge of the bed with a sigh and kicked off her boots.

"You will make captain," she said. "Of that I am certain of. Just don't let them make you an admiral."
She picked up one of her boots and started to buff out the day's scuffs. She even spit on the toe to bring out the extra shine.

"Just don't forget to live too. There's more to life than that next pip. Lord knows I forgot that bit. Just don't be like me okay?"

"I won't ma'am." Angel said with a smile and looked at her. "You know you're not that old, you can still live too. And you can still drunk dance pretty well. New Year's this year..." she giggled lightly. "Without the Admiral's uniform and your hair down, you look like any other feisty redhead that can still surprise people. In a good way."

Meanwhile --

"You are out of your bloody mind." A short blonde in a black leather jacket said as she crossed her arms.

"And you are grumpy today." Nick said as he packed his gear into his briefcase. "I've been doing this since before you were born."

"Well, you can blame Marcus for that and this goes against everything you taught me." she said and shook her head. "Look, be careful. Even with her."

"I know... which is why I'n not taking chances. Get our friends to safety, just in case. We lost one good man today on the Erebus, we can't lose more to this threat." Nick said and put his hand on her shoulder. "And listen... if shit does hit the fan, I don't want you in the crossfire."

"I'm pregnant, not wounded." she said and rolled her eyes.

"You're also barely seventeen and you're carrying my grandson, even if his father is being a dick." Nick chuckled lightly.

"Yeah Marcus needs to get his head out of his ass and do right by this... but whatever. Olivia said she's going to work with her mom, if you're down with that." she ran her hand through her hair and looked down at her belly. "You're sure you not mad about this?"

"Kirby. I'm not mad, how can I be? He loves you he just... he's... got a lot more growing up to do." Nick said and pecked her cheek. "Your dad always joked about getting a DNA test to make sure you weren't mine, but... your mom scares the shit out of me an that says something."

"Too right there... you've seen her slaughter a dingo..." Kirby shuddered. "Maybe I should partner with Livvy, we always worked well together. And at least you won't have to worry about getting another grandchild so soon... and Angel's so prim and proper, she'll wait until she's grey before she drops her knickers."

"I really don't want to think about that. Just... keep things cool. Enemy finds out you have a kid and lovers, they're targets. Especially given your age. Julie had to pretend to be single for a long time too." Nick reminded her.

"I won't let anything happen to 'em." Kirby said and adjusted her belt on her hips. "Alright... I suppose we'll get our allies to safe houses and keep an eye on things just in case. Hey, tell Angel congrats... she always wanted to serve with you and Sandoval."

"Will do and remember... You're ANGEL Alpha on this... your first big Op... need help, reach out to your old man, but he's got a mission too." Nick reminded her.

"I will and Nick... thanks. I mean it. I won't let you down." Kirby said and saluted him. "Black ANGEL Alpha out." she said as her holographic form fizzled out.

Glancing at the console of her shuttle she sighed. "Seventeen and risking my arse... this is going to be a long bloody career..."

Three Weeks Later~

Rebecca stood in front of a electronic "chalk board" and wrote 28, June 1914. "Anyone know the significance of this date?" She asked her class of cadets.

There was hesitation and finally one of them spoke up, "World War 1?"

"Close, but you are off by one month. Who here have heard of Archduke Franz Ferdinand?"

Blank faces only stared back at her.

"Franz Ferdinand was the presumptive heir to the throne of Austro-hungarian Empire. The assassination of him and his wife directly lead to World War One."

She glanced at the chronometer, "Okay cadets, it looks like that is all the time we have. I need your reports on the Spanish-Amrican War tomorrow, and there will be a test on that and the beginning of World War One Friday. I would read chapter 13 by Thursday. Dismissed."

The cadets filed out of the classroom, and Rebecca gathered up a couple of PADD. "Computer end transmission, and close holodeck simulation Sandoval-9."

The computer bleeped, "Communications with Starfleet Academy is terminated. Terminating simulation."

The classroom vanished to be replaced by the holodeck grid. Exiting she headed for the bridge.

The bridge still had that new carpet and fresh paint smell as she stepped onto the main bridge. There wasn't. Much to do as they were still refitting the main computer, and the warp drive, and Angel was the only one on duty sitting idly at the helm position.

"Well, Angel not as exciting as you thought eh? Here are the next set of finals. You passed the last two so you are officially a senior. For whatever that is worth to you."

"Wow! Seriously? I passed?" Angel looked at the padd. "That second to last one I took, they really tried to trip me up. The wording was really specific." she said with a smile and chuckled. "Y'know, actually this is kind of exciting." she glanced at the helm. "I've been running helm sims, I think I finally worked out a helm layout for hands like mine. And yes I'm being overly optimistic. Oh and Admiral... I sent those reports you wanted sent out at specific times." she cocked her head at the Captain's chair. "Check out what Commander Robins did to your chair, you have seat restraints that actually fit a female body."

She shrugged, "I don't know if I should thankful or scared. I've known a few captains that were crushed in their chair. But, I'll be sure to let the Commander know. Do we have an ETA on our new first officer?"

"Should have word tomorrow." Angel said as she got up and walked over to the main engineering display. "New Computer Core should be up around the time we get our daily data pack from Command. My uncle sent over a pretty large system software upgrade for us. Thought it would be smart for us to run a different command software from the rest of the Fleet, at least outside of dad's 414th." she closed her eyes as she went back to the helm station. "I still see his body on the floor there. Keep walking around the spot he fell."

She frowned, "I know. Me too."

Rebecca took a seat at the empty operations console. She idly worked it. "Your dad should be here soon. I'll assume you will be taking up Yeoman duties when he arrives. I hate to see you go."

"Unless he thinks you need me for a bit longer." Angel said as she looked over at her. "I really do enjoy spending time with you like this. There are things you're teaching me that I don't think I could get from him. I'm a short, perky young woman, commanding respect from other teenagers is one thing, but from battle hardened officers, I think I'm learning 'the follow my damn orders look'. I did get Lieutenant Lefner to finish your ready room before the Chief Engineer's officer. A lot of ways, it's still almost like high school... which is... disappointing. Guess mom was right, adults are just taller kids until they have to adult."

Rebecca laughed, "It can be like herding cats at times. Look we both have to work harder than the men. There are Neanderthals who think we can't do the job because we are too emotional, or whatever the excuse. You are smarter than I but, our age will present more than it's fair share of conflict."

She sighed and looked at Angel, "You are going to have to figure out what works for you. But, always keep in mind that you never give an order that you wouldn't be willing to do yourself. I've taken duty shifts for subordinates who needed help. I try to jump into the thick of things, and help rather than stand over a shoulder questioning what they are doing."
