Angelica clutched a stainless steel thermos and held her coat over her arm as she took a deep breath and entered Admiral Sandoval's office. This was really it, she was part of the world her father and 'aunt' Becca shared now. She thought to herself how cool it was that she was already saluted to by a couple of cadets that passed her by, not really looking at her, but at the single gold rank pip on her collar. Although, she did look much more mature than her age, between the way she did her hair, in a regulation style, but still elegant and attractive, and her makeup, carefully applied to not look as 'made up' as she usually looked, but probably more steps to give her some edges and look less like a teenager. Although she did regret wearing the skirt, a few older officers were already checking her out. Now she understood why Admiral Sandoval usually wore pants when she visited. Of course, as her mother taught her and her sister, let them look. 'If they're looking at your legs or your butt or your chest, they're not looking where you're looking. They're not focused on what you're really doing. Use that to your advantage.' It was a lesson she already used to her benefit in school and in other projects.

Tapping the door chime, she stood at attention and waited for Sandoval to answer. Glancing at the thermos again she smiled slightly, she remembered her original protests about her father's coffee, but being a 'health nut's daughter', she had a particular healthy brew that sometimes she swapped out for her father's beans, he usually knew it was the 'other stuff', can't fool his augmented taste buds, but he never complained and usually finished a pot of it by himself. It was a Hawaiian custom to bring flowers, well... this tea was a flower at one point. Whatever happened from today on, she was going to face it head on. This is where she belonged and the fact that her father's best friend agreed to it, just made it seem like it was meant to be.

Then she worried... what was she getting into if they were scared enough to bring in a teenager?

"Enter!" Rebecca announced. She gathered up some PADDs and stacked them neatly on the desk.

"Dad you remember Angel Ryder? She was at the house with her parents and sister Olivia a few Christmases back."

The elder Sandoval squinted and leaned into to the screen. "Aww yes, absolutely! How are you young lady?"

"Oh doing wonderful sir." Angel said with a smile. "Did you get that painting I sent you? Not my usual medium but that ranch inspired me." she handed Becca the thermos. "Coffee alternative, I think you'll like it. Usually I'd bring flowers, but there is a distinct lack of those around here."

He smiled politely, "I did. It's hanging up in the dining room as we speak. Not bad at all. I tell people my granddaughter Angel painted it," he gave her a wink. "Well, pumpkin I gotta go. I have a dialysis appointment in town."

"Take care of yourself okay? And I'll see you tomorrow."

"I better." And with that the transmission ended to be replaced with the seal of Starfleet Academy.

Rebecca looked at the thermos and smiled. "I thank you."

"I'm glad you like it." Angel said as she hung up her jacket and opened up her briefcase. "Dad wanted me to give you these." she pulled out a couple of padds. "He was going to be in meetings all day, so pretty much I'm all your's. I have to admit, it felt wonderful not having to get ready for school today. I even got called 'ma'am' by some Cadets. Helps that I already sort of know my way around here, I didn't have that clueless, confused, deer in the headlights look."

Angel looked out of Becca's window and took a breath. "Olivia suspects something too. This is off the record, but... she's going to be working with mother, similar way I'm working with you and dad, but... she's going to feed me anything that sounds just a bit... off. You should have seen her when she came in this morning, looked like she fought a war. Mom had her dumped in that old CIA facility near Virginia, told to survive in pretty much just her yoga gear and while she did... she's totally grooming her for some very dirty work. The guys she was fighting were not giving her an inch because she's young. Nearly had to kill a couple of them. Mom had this self satisfied look on her face, like Liv passed the test. She and I are loyal to each other, we're never far from each other's thoughts. We may have totally different personalities but we'd never screw each other over." she crossed her arms. "So this sortie training we're doing today... this prep for something or are we snooping while we train?"

"If you can pilot a fighter you can pilot a shuttle or even a starship. The controls are the same. Performance and capabilities are the only things different. As far as snooping goes, I don't think we have much to worry about on the Erebus, but the crew might tell a junior officer things that they would never say in front of an Admiral. I suggest we don't introduce you as a Ryder though. When we get back I have a meeting with Admirals Takamura, Krin, and Solok. I assume your mother has trained you in intelligence gathering including observation of subjects. K'meck got back with me last night. The New Obsidian Order is watching Takamura for anti-alien activities and connections to the name Tiberius. I contacted the Romulans, and the Tal Shiar confirms the Cardassian's suspicions. I did not talk to Starfleet Intelligence as I do not know how deep this is, or even if there is a thing at this point."

Rebecca gathered up a few things, and them pulled her uniform jacket on and zipped it up, "Let this be a lesson for you Angel. Make friends. Even those in the most unlikely of places. Your mom would call them assets no doubt, and I guess she would be right."

"She did and I do have a cover ID if we need it, Angel Lee... everyone pronounces mother's family's name wrong, they say it 'Lee' but it's more like Lay, like the flowers. Of course my grandfather, General Jackson Lei says it Lee..." Angel said and rolled her eyes. "But given my features, Lee is as generic as Smith or Johnson and just as common." she frowned slightly. "Obsidian Order is watching some of our people? Isn't that like... against the treaty? Although like you said, make friends everywhere. I'm good at that. Being observant, find some common interest and use that. I don't know if it's sad or not that I'm barely 18 and I think that way already."

Rebecca laughed, "When has that stopped anyone? Treaties are designed to fail."

Rebecca pressed a com button, "Sandoval to Erebus. Two to beam up."

There was a hesitation before the transporter took effect. Rebecca and Angle appeared on the transporter pad on the Erebus. An enormous Gorn wearing a command uniform was there to greet them. The lizard eyes darting about taking in the two. "Welcome back ma'am," he hissed.

"Thanks Number One. This is Ensign Angelica Lei. Angel, Captain Karrak my first officer."

"A pleasure to meet you." Angel said with her usual cheery smile and tone of voice as she looked up at the huge Gorn. "Happy 10th Ship-iversary... 10 year refits are always kind of fun, you realize just how fast things have changed." she remembered when her dad made a big deal out of some of those 10 year refits, would almost come out an entirely different with new advances, although she also knew the psychological effect it had on the crew, there was still familiarity but it changed things up just enough to keep veterans on board an 'older' ship instead of jumping to something newer and more state of the art. "I do hope he has a comfortable chair on the bridge." she whispered. "Big guy like that."

"I ssstand misss," The reptilian officer replied.

"As you were Number One. We will be on the flight deck if you need anything."

"Underssssood." The Gorn bowed and exited the transporter room.

Rebecca followed him out, and headed down the corridor to a nearby turbolift. "Mr. Karrak has been with me a long time. He was my XO on this ship when it launched. He went other places, and now he's back. He basically commands the ship these days."

She stepped in and the doors closed, "Flight deck. Mr. Karrak has this little quirk. He is obsessed with John Wayne."

"That's kind of cool actually." Angel said and hummed. "Need to get him a chair though. I think dad has something already designed for big guys like him. I kinda feel bad for him, just standing all the time."

"Indeed. Our trips with him to the holodeck are something of a legend around here."

The turbolift stopped and the doors parted to greet them with a Narlin woman wearing a Starfleet uniform and lieutenant's pips. She had platinum blonde hair pulled back into a tight ponytail that almost disappeared into her pale skin, which only make her emerald eyes all the more striking. "Admiral, the bridge said you were heading here. You said this was top priority."

The Narlin handed her a PADD to which Rebecca accepted, and started to review. Without looking up she introduced the two, "Lieutenant with is Ensign Lee. She is on temporary detachement to the Erebus for training. Ensign this is Lt. Lehona Sunstrider. First Narlin graduate of the Academy, and my Chief of Security."

Angel was taken by the Narlin woman's features, almost elvish, like something out of the Tolkien or other fantasy stories her father used to watch with her. "Oh that is very cool, the first Narlin graduate? You have really got the most interesting crew Admiral. Gorn. Narlin. A pleasure to meet you Lieutenant." she made a mental note that when she got her own command, she was going to look for a Narlin or some other 'new' race someday. From what she remembered from what her father told her about the Narlins, they were a warrior race, but very tactical, supposedly some of them thought Sandoval was divinely sent to help them. But their people were extremely careful about who they allied with. "Hopefully the first of many to come out of the Academy hmm?"

"Most do not wish to leave the homeworld," Lehona replied. "But, if you are not of noble birth, there is nothing, but starvation and poverty. Even the nobles are no better off. The land was laid waste to by the Gorvan, and crops do not grow. There are too few replicators to make life comfortable."

Angel frowned at that revelation. "That's horrible... sometimes it surprises me that the Federation allows that to continue... although sometimes you can't always 'force' aide. Pride has a lot to do with that." she said, wise beyond her years. She recalled a situation that both her parents were in, they tried to help but the ones they were trying to help refused their aide or simply didn't accept it. "I hope someday the Federation can help your people."
