Leaning against the bannister of their temporary home, warm tears streamed down the cheeks of the Australian intel agent. She wept silently. Partially out of anger, of frustration and then guilt.

The anger was directed at Julie Lei, a woman she'd seen as a figurehead for her own life for many years. Whom, turned out to be a sadistic, racially descriminitive psychopath he bent on possible mass genocide.
The frustration was because of the difficulties she'd been having with her intel networks. Some of her closest 'colleagues' where missing, killed, and in worse cases; defected. That only added to her anger.
But finally, she was now suffering from guilt. Her dear husband had been the immediate target of her wrath while the first two emotions had her in throws. Het now all she felt was utter remorse, for all that she'd said to him.
Reminding herself constatly of the private pact she'd made to herself all those years previously. Never do an innocent harm. And by hurting Marc, she had. It made her sick to even think of it. So the warm tears continued.

Marcus had retreated to the 'garage' the small workshop that he had set up off to the side of the house. Much like his father, when he needed to think, he had to do something with his hands. Since Zeke was sleeping and the shouting match he just had with Kirby was already enough commotion, shooting some weapons at the target range in the back yard wasn't an option. So instead he pounded on a piece of metal that was once the fender to the classic 38 Ford that one of the other Marines asked him to help with.

As the hammer blows echoed within the soundproofed workshop, his mind wandered to his fight with Kirby. How ever since the incident that nearly ended in both Kinsey and Ally being killed by his mother... or at least a reasonable doppleganger of her, the two of them had been having more little fights like that. He tried not to dwell on it too much, even though Julie was his mother, the woman that used to take him to the park, show him how to do various martial arts moves and even bought him his first gun for his 16th birthday.

Then he looked at the chronometer on the wall and sighed heavily, 'What am I doing out here, when the woman I love more than anyone is going through hell?' he thought. Mustering up the courage, and putting on a suit of underarmor under his flannel shirt and jeans, he walked back into the house.

"Kirby... hon, we really need to talk." He said and approached her, "No more yelling, no more fights..."

The tears far from done with her, Kirby turned her head to face him. It was clear from her expression that; she'd been crying since he walked off and that she was feeling much the worse for wear. She now looked as exhausted as she felt and the emotional strain of recent times had fully caught up to her.

So with a forced swallow and heavy sigh, she nodded. The words croaked from her throat through somewhat cracked lips, "I'm so sorry Marc." She began with a ragged sigh that made her pause, "You didn't deserve even one of those fights. Nor any bad word that I'd said to you since that incident with Ally and Kinsey." Her eyes dropped from his form and to the decking, "I've been a total bitch."

Marcus nodded his head., "I won't deny that, but you're my wife, the mother of my child... and I'll love you no matter what. So let's talk about this..." he said and wrapped his arms around her, "We've been avoiding that particular elephant for too long."

A shaky inhalation preceeded a slight nod as she rested her head against Marc's chest. It took a moment before a tired smirk played against her features. The smirk lit her eyes as she lifted the side of his shirt and chuckled hoarsely, "Armour?" She questioned then wrapped an arm around his muscled torso. "You're right, for once." To which she paused for effect before the smirk faded. "Let's go inside, we need the remedy. It'll make talking about this easier for us both. C'mon."

"Sounds good to me." Marc nodded his head and winced slightly at her noticing the under armor, "Its like a second skin to me lately. And I was afraid you'd throw something at me again."

Kirby chuckled and the warmth returned to her features. "I'm sorry about that too. I had better aim than I expected though. Hell even you looked shocked that my second shot with the plate got you." She replied honestly while taking Marc's hand to lead him inside.

"Remind me to get you a spot on next season's Marine football team." Marcus chuckled, "That's a helluva an arm you've got." he kissed her cheek, and rubbed her low back. "I take it the stress is because of my mother, isn't it?" he sighed and sat down while she got the 'Remedy' prepared.

Chuckling just a little with Marc as she took out the tortillas she'd recently made and nodded while glancing over her shoulder. Slipping a knife from the knife block, her jaw clenched a moment as she deftly cut the tortillas. Placing the knife away from her as she began to separate the pieces. It was then that she spoke, her tone was soft and full of pain.

"Marc, you remember how close she and I where when Liv and I got into black ops all those years ago. She practically trained me. It's more that I saw a darkness in her back then that I ignored because I couldn't accept that she was anything more than your loving mother." She paused and sighed heavily. "I'll never be that naïve again. Not now. Especially because've lil Zeke." Turning to face him as she bit her bottom lip, she still looked exhausted and this time the fear showed in her eyes, mirroring what she was about to say. "I've promised myself that I'd never turn into something like th... something like her." Another light pause. "I'm afraid for the first time in a really long time baby. And... your mum is the reason. It's not because of what's happening with Terra Pax but because I know I have that same darkness lurking in me."

Marcus sighed heavily, "I know." he said softly. "But you have one thing mom doesn't have... you know where it'll lead if gone unchecked." he poured the drinks and looked at her, "You may think my cockiness and sort of bullheadedness comes from dad, and yeah he's got a lot of that too, but mom was even more so, she just hid it better. At times I wonder if I ever really knew the real her. She was a spy since she was 16 years old, or at least training to be that. She spent years learning acting. And there are times when I wonder if the reason why she was so aloof when Jack and I would bring home girls we met at the Academy who were non-Terran, were early signs she was already going down the path of Terra Pax."

Kirby sighed heavily as she toasted the tortilla peices and stirred the lime juice and fresh coriander before nodding. "We should definitely count ourselves lucky that our heads are mostly screwed on straight baby." She remarked softly and her tone mirrored the smile that spread over her features. It was a moment before she sat next to Marc with the food in hand. "And that we have our family around us. If I didn't have you and Zeke I would be knee deep in trouble."

"See, always told you that our insanity kept you sane." Marcus said with a chuckle and handed her a glass, "Although I'm still thinking that while it's her... it's not her somehow. Like, an alternate version of her or she was brainwashed or something. As much as she hated the St. James's, she wouldn't resort to murder and she wouldn't have done thing she's done." he winced, "Would she?"

Kirby was sipping the whiskey as Marc spoke and almost chocked when he suggested that Noella St James of all people could be capable of mass genocide. After almost choking, she shook her head and laughed lightly. "You are kidding me right?! I cqn't see either of those two being capable of that. At all."

"I meant my mother dear." Marcus smirked, "The St. James girls could barely be capable of ridding a house of bugs. I mean... my mother was the one who fought against those kinds of people and now she's not only one of them, but the head honcho?" he shook his head, "Something seriously snapped in her brain. I mean she never really 'liked' some of the alien politicians holding positions in Earth government, but that's just part and parcel of evolution. Look at the United States... got people of all nationalities who lived and worked there and eventually we ended up with Irish presidents, African congressmen, and Polish Admirals." he took a sip of the whiskey and sighed, "I don't know what happened... and how her marriage to dad just completely dissolved. I used to think they really loved each other."

Taking a sip of the whiskey and nodding as she listened silently. A soft palm rested on his hand before Kirby spoke. "They did. What I saw when we where kids was real love. I noticed that when your mum started to get into spying and black ops that she and your dad just seemed to grow apart more and more. Who knows what made her snap lile this babe."
