James walked into the house. He was alone, but that would change soon when Zoe arrived home with the baby. He sighed and breathed deeply at the fresh scents. The cedar of the walls, the cinnamon candles burning on the coffee table, the fresh cotton of the sheets and curtains, and the scents of jasmine and lotus flowers blowing in from the open windows and the flower boxes outside. He walked into the nursery, which adjoined the master bedroom. The house was newly built and the room freshly painted. They were painted a light grass green with lavendar trim along the floor and wallboards. A cedar crib sat in the corner with the head of it near one of the windows. Above the ceiling a mobile hung. Slowly turning there were a handful of hand carved wooden animals, carefully painted in whimsical colors. He rested his hands on the rails of the crib and sighed. "You are going to be sleeping here soon, little one. Right here beside our room, so any time you cry we will be here to hold you or whatever it is you need. He reached up and twisted the little crank on the mobile and it began playing a melody. It was the same lullaby he had sung to Zoe earlier. It was one called, "Ride White Pony", one that he remembered his mother singing to one of his younger sisters when she was a baby. |

Two days later, Zoe and the baby were discharged from the infirmary. Walking into their house with James at her side, the couple took their newborn daughter to the nursery, laying her in the plush bedding of the crib. From nowhere, the treecats appeared, flanking the crib and gazing down at the infant, who watched the cats with a curious look in her eye. "This is Adana," Zoe told the 'cats. |

"Our little Adana, our beautiful angel." He leaned down and kissed the baby on her forehead and then stroked the downy fuzz on her head. He straightened up and wrapped Zoe up in his arms. "We did good, didn't we?" |

Zoe gazed at the tiny child as James' arms wrapped about her. "Yes, we did." |

He smiled and kissed her cheek. He laughed as the tiny baby opened her eyes and made a cute little gurgling cooing noise. "Well sounds like her uncle Travis when he drinks and has her mother's eyes." He chuckled and held Zoe tightly. "Did I do alright with the room?" |

Zoe looked about the room, taking in the colors and the designs. There was a New Texan feel, but not so much that it would clash with anything purely Betazoid. She knew her mother would be bringing gifts when they came to see their first granddaughter. "I can't wait for Mom and Dad to get here." |

James nodded. "It will be nice to have them here." He shook his head. "I wish my parents could come, but they have to stay on New Texas for now. If things turn to war, they won't stand by. The second we are attacked the SDF, Rangers, and half the planet will probably pack up and head out here." |

"Once Mom and Dad are here, I can focus on what's needed here and on the station. We need defenses and we need them fast." She sighed. "One day we'll be able to live and not have to worry about war, but that time isn't here yet." |

He smiled and shook his head. "I have been looking forward to that day for a long time. It always seems on the horizon, but I think we are chasing the dawn. As for defending this place, I am going to get the Marines started on fortifying the colony." |

The ordeal on AC had passed, his arrival had been vastly overshadowed by his arrival in the wake of Kinsey's death and at last he was home. He didn't feel relieved, only more tired. He stepped through the door to his home and breathed in the scent of the still fresh cedar. It was pleasant. A mewling cry rose from one corner and Houston bounded at him and leapt into his two leg's arms. "Hey buddy, I missed you." A single true-hand on his cheek and the look in the 'cat's eyes told him the feeling was mutual. The cat glanced over James's shoulder and James turned and saw the holo. It was one taken of Zoe and Kinsey, Zoe holding baby Adana. He took it off the wall and sat in the chair behind him. "Kins, how could it be you?," he asked to the empty house. Since Kinsey and he had been caught off guard and had taken a little trip down memory lane, what felt like a century ago. He had borne a link similar to that he and Zoe and she and Jack had, though much weaker. And he didn't feel her gone. It felt as if he could still feel her out there, but distant and growing more so for some reason. He rehung the picture and walked toward's the nursery. He heard a giggle of laughter and smiled. " 'Dana," he had the urge to hold his little one and he opened the door to find one of the young female engineering ratings sitting with the baby. "Hey there, umm Collins right?" He stepped forward and the rating smiled. "Right, Mr. Webster, you can call me Erica though." She held the baby out to him, and he took her. He felt the bond with his daughter wash over him like the lapping waves of the ocean. "Zoe went down to the market to pick up some things. She said you were coming back, I don't think she expected you this soon though." He didn't hear a word of it though as he was lost in his daughter's gaze. |

Zoe returned home, noting a distinct feeling in the air. Quietly, she made her way to the nursery, glancing in to see James holding Adana. |

James turned, his eyes radiating a warmth and happiness they had been missing in the darkening days. He was still clad in the dark work coveralls taken from the Terra Pax craft, but there was little doubt that the man in them was the same who had left. "Hello Imzadi." He walked slowly over with Adana in his arms and bowed his head to touch hers. "I am home. I'm home and I love you." |

Zoe lifted her face, her lips meeting his for a tender kiss. "We've missed you," she said, her voice near cracking as she considered all that he missed here. "I--I've missed you." |

He nodded his head. As the days had passed, and especially after the birth of Adana, he had been able to discern much about what was going through her mind. The piercing gaze in those icy blues of his told her as much as he could feel from her. "I know you have, but I am back Zoe. I had to do things, some things I didn't want to. Like leaving you and our little one hear to go out and find out what was really happening. Tester knows I didn't want to." He returned the kiss with a heat and passion that wrapped them like tongues of flame. "I'm back for good, Zoe." |

There were so many emotions, for he had missed so much. Anger, fear, love, and desire were a torrent within Zoe. She wanted to scream at him, talk to him, sit with him, vanish away...so much emotion, and only one dominating the rest for now. "James, what say we put Adana down for a nap and activate the hologram nanny?" |
