The trip had been long, grueling, and at times profitable for K’n’zy of Calhoun as she traveled from backwater spaceport to backwater spaceport. That was until a small ship happened to fall into her possession, which sped up her journey considerably. K’n’zy had appeared emotionless throughout her journey with the expectation of the event that lead to her possession of the ship. If she had any regrets about leaving, Terra Alpha and her old life behind, they didn’t show. In fact, she appeared to be the young Xenexian who had made it on her own since she was 14. As the New Zealand came into sight K’n’zy let a smile creep across her features at the prospect of seeing Nathan. He was the only one of whom she had informed of her plan. He hadn’t been thrilled but he had supported her none the less. She typed a very brief message and sent it to the New Zealand just seconds before they started to hail. ~New Zealand~ “Captain the ship is refusing visual or audio contact but they sent a reply. I can’t make sense of it though. Perhaps their translator is broken.” The young ensign at ops said as she tried to make out what knzy6311 was supposed to mean. When Nathan read the message, it almost made him laugh but he did everything he possibly could to keep from showing any emotion. “Send a reply stating that the shuttlebay is open and have everyone down there clear out.” Nathan ordered as he started for the turbolift. “Ummm sir where are you going,” the ensign inquired as she sent the messages. “To great our visitor,” he replied simply and then put a hand up as if stopping the ensign from saying something. “And no I don’t need security.” ~Kinsey’s ship~ “So do I really want to know how you managed to get your hands on this?” Nathan asked her as he stumbled onto what passed as the bridge on the tiny ship. “If I told you I’d have to kill you,” she replied with a shrug. “You know this cloak and dagger shit is for the birds right?” Nathan inquired as he pushed some strange looking objects off a chair and sat down. “Why Captain Morris you’ve sworn in uniform I’m impressed.” K’n’zy teased him as she slipped gracefully from the helm controls and picked up her single back, slipping it onto her shoulder. “Oh bite me Calhoun.” “Again I’m impressed.” She said with a grin as she headed for the hatch. “You know you’ve gotten irritating in your death.” Nathan stated as he stepped out with her, nearly banging his head on a bulkhead. “And captaincy has made you colorful, Captain.” “No its made me old having to keep secrets from our mother. You know how bad this had hurt her Kinsey? How many times she calls me trying to pretending she hasn’t been crying just to start crying again?” Nathan inquired, letting the frustration show in his voice. “I don’t care,” was her cold reply. “Like hell you don’t,” Nathan yelled as he grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him. When their eyes met, he let go instantly. She looked as though she might kill him as if perhaps that had been the ‘luck’ that had landed her the ship and suddenly he felt as though he didn’t know her anymore. “You’ve changed.” “I only told you because…” “You need my help to get the rest of the way to Xenex I know. And like the fool I am I’ve already made up a pack for you. It’s in transport room 3. I made sure to give the transporter chief the day off so its empty. Just like you asked.” Nathan informed her as they walked to the entrance to the shuttlebay. “Good now if you don’t mind, Captain I’d like to finish this trip.” Kinsey said as she stepped out into the corridor. It was practically empty. ~Transporter Room~ “I don’t know why you want to go back there Kinsey there isn’t anything left.” Nathan told her as they entered the transporter room and watched Kinsey walked right over to the transporter padd. “That’s exactly why Nathan. It’s the perfect place to be alone. Where I don’t have to worry about anyone happening across me and discovering I’m still alive.” Kinsey replied. “Ready when you are.” “And if I never am?” He inquired as he stepped behind the console. “I’ll do it myself.” She replied, crossing her arms. “We’ll be back around in about a week or two. I’ll check up on you then.” Nathan informed her as he inputted the location for Calhoun. “I’d rather you didn’t,” Kinsey replied as Nathan beamed her away. “Sometimes you don’t get what you want Kins,” Nathan said after she had vanished. |

The heat was staggering and the sun overbearing it caught Kinsey off guard as she finished materialize on the dry, red, and cracked surface. It took her body a minute to adjust to the harsh conditions that were the norm for Xenex. Living on Terra Alpha had spoiled her with its constant temperatures, yellow sun, and gentle breezes. To put it simply Terra Alpha was the human’s version of Heaven and Xenex was their hell. The condition of Calhoun hadn’t changed since her last visit after the Brethren had attacked the planet, as a lesson to Captain Calhoun. The city of Calhoun, K’n’zy’s place a birth, was nothing more than building skeletons, picked away by weapons fire and neglect. There wasn’t a soul around hell she wasn’t even sure if there was anyone left on the planet after she had left. If M’k’n’zy has wrote her to tell her of survivors it had been lost in the mounds of paperwork and reports about Terra Pax. K’n’zy felt oddly at peace with the idea of being the only person on the entire planet. She had wanted to be alone and alone she was. K’n’zy took a quick inventory of the pack Nathan had packed for her water, an emergency first-aid kit, field rations, and a sleeping roll. She resealed the bag and swung it onto her back, secured the straps, and began to walk through the graveyard city. When she reached the outskirts, she took one last look at her home and then walked off into the desert. |

The Pit was by far the most inhospitable place on Xenex. It was a vast stretch of land a few kilometers outside of Calhoun. Nothing grew there and storms seemed to appear without warning. Xenexians gave the pit a wide berth, unless you were dared to enter. The pit has once been home to the rite of passage known as The Search for Allways. Xenexians packed enough supplies to last for one day in hope of having a vision of one’s future. Too many children were lost to the silly ritual that it had turned into more of a discouraged dare then an actually ritual. Kinsey never put much faith into The Search for Allways. When she had run away from Keira’s father she had taken refuge in the Pit but had never had a vision, on the contrary she had nearly died. The only person she knew of who had seen anything in the Allways was M’k’n’zy. He had seen the Xenexian people freed and they had made him warlord. Kinsey did not expect any of this as she stepped foot into the Pit. She expected to die more than likely not to have profound visions of the future. It was not until she was several kilometers into the Pit, walking along a ridge, that she stopped to rest. The air was oddly calm and the sky clear it was by all standards a beautiful day on Xenex. Kinsey reached into her pocket and pulled out a small tab. It had been a long time since she had used Mektab, a narcotic from Serrias. It was guaranteed to burn like fire and make your heart race. It was truly a thrilling sensation. Kinsey popped the tab into her mouth and rolled it around. It did not take it long to kick in just as it didn’t take long for the calm to cease. One moment Kinsey felt the burning effect begin to take hold and the next the hairs on the back of her neck were on end. She could tell there was something wrong but the drug was already taking effect. The storm was almost upon her when she finally made an effort to get to her feet. A massive cloud of dirt and lighting were heading towards her, pulling anything that was lose from desert floor. “Grozit!” Kinsey cursed as she started for the edge of the ridge, hoping to find cover. Her heart was already racing and it took everything she had to push herself forward, skin blazing. She was growing light head from the combination of the drug and her flight. Kinsey’s foot slipped, carelessly, throwing her horribly off balance. She tumbled to the ground and her body hit hard her head struck a jagged rock just below the temple. The last she saw was the storm consuming her. |

“Wake up sleepy head” Kinsey heard a young girl say. She was on the edges of consciousness and her head hurt immensely. “Are you going to sleep all day?” The voice inquired. Something about the way she sounded gave Kinsey the impression that this voice knew her but Kinsey could not place it. She was young, a child perhaps twelve but it wasn’t Keira nor was it Emily. “Go away child,” Kinsey commanded as she attempted to sit up only to feel her body pitch and fall back to the ground. The world spun at a sickening speed forcing her to close her eyes tight to prevent herself from pucking. “Oh come on you have to get up. You can’t lie here all day.” The girl insisted. “Don’t make me get dad…” Dad? Kinsey thought, confused. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the nausea threating to consume her and opened one eye to look at the child. She was about to question the child as to how she got out into the pit, where her family was, and why the hell she was bothering her until she noticed the child seem almost transparent. “What the hell are you?” Kinsey inquired as she gently touched her forehead and winced in pain. Her fingers came back wet with blood, a good amount. “That’s it I’m going to go get Dad,” she informed Kinsey as she started to hop away. “Wait!” Kinsey called as she dragged herself to her feet. Something about the girl was familiar but she could place it. “Come back!” She called as she started to half run half stagger after the girl. Her head throbbed and everything was blurry and spinning but she had to catch the girl. Had to find out who the hell she was and why she was so invested in Kinsey. “Child wait!” Kinsey yelled at the child. “You got up!” The girl exclaimed as she stopped and turned to face Kinsey. “Do you want to play tag? We could get dad to play too.” “Who are you?” Kinsey said, sounding out of breath, as she looked the child over her eyes resting on the girls. There was something about them but she could quite make it out as she squinted it hit her. “My god,” she exclaimed as she took in the lavender blue mix of color. The lavender was definitely a Xenexian shade and the blue reminded her very much of Jack. The girl’s hair never seemed to get messy as she ran about very similar to Kinsey’s. “It can’t be.” She stammered as the world again pitched and Kinsey fell to the ground. “Tag you’re it!” The girl exclaimed as she reached out to touch Kinsey and for a second she could have sworn she actually felt the child touch her. Again darkness claimed her.

How long had she been walking? Kinsey had lost track of the time as she walked, more like shuffled. The sun had grown hotter, or at least it felt like it. She still had no idea where she was or if she was even going in the right direction. “You’re being selfish,” the voice of the girl informed her as she appeared out of nowhere. “You came her to die didn’t you?” “What do you know?” Kinsey shot back. “I know you’re here because you can’t stand it that people actually care about you. All you’re thinking about is yourself. Not me, not dad, no one just Kinsey Calhoun. You don’t care that if you die out here you effectively kill me to. You don’t care that Uncle Nathan will have to take your dried up corps home and tell everyone that you faked your death like a coward for nothing because you just ended up killing yourself anyways.” The girl’s voice rose as she spoke. “What do you know? You’re not real and on top of that you’re just a child.” Kinsey informed the girl as her shuffling began to slow, her body was starting to give out. “Please you and I both know that age doesn’t mean crap and I’m part of you. So don’t think for a moment I don’t know what’s going on in your head.” “Get your ass up…” “Go away! Go back to your perfect little life and leave me the hell alone. You’re not even real!” Kinsey yelled at the girl as she waved her hands through her trying to force her to leave. “Get your ass up…” “Stop talking to me! Go away!” Kinsey yelled at the girl, but the girl hadn’t spoken. “I don’t want you anymore go away!” She yelled again as she forced herself to her feet, swing at the air where the girl had been. Kinsey’s knees gave and she fell backwards swing her arms. A pair of strong sturdy hands caught her before she had the chance to hit the ground. “Look at the mess you’ve gotten yourself into K’n’zy.” A tall dark hair man said. Something about his voice was familiar. “Jack?” Kinsey asked as she began to slip away. “I don’t want to die.” |

She had called him Jack but Captain Mackenzie Calhoun was no Jack Ryder. Considering how out of it K’n’zy was it hadn’t surprised him in fact it reminded him of the time his brother had found him in the Pit. His face had been slashed open and sealed again with a laser welder and he had been so out of it chasing the naked image of his future wife. It had been a vision of the future as he found out almost 20 years later. No one had been around to see it but him and if K’n’zy had been having one he figured no one would have seen his. He hadn’t seen who she had been talking to but judging by her behavior when he had found her it had grown into a heated conversation. Mac pulled a bottle of water from K’n’zy’s bag and eased over to where she laid on the cool floor of the cave. A storm was raging outside, it had come out of nowhere but his heightened sense for danger had alerted him in time to get them both to shelter before it hit. He knelt beside her giving her tiny drops of water to wet her throat and lips. In her state it was all he could give otherwise she would get sick and the last thing he wanted was for her to expel what small amount of water she still had in her body. He resealed the bottle, leaned back against a rock, and watched as she tossed about. Whatever had been going on in her head wasn’t about to let up even if she was near death.

“Jack,” she called out again as she laid there on the floor of the cave. The storm still raging outside, it was one of the worst the Pit had to offer. They wouldn’t be able to leave until the storm passed something about the electromagnetic forces within the storms. Until then Mac wasn’t sure what to do, he was no doctor, but what he was sure of was that he need to get K’n’zy to a doctor. She was badly dehydrated and from what he could tell by how far gone she was K’n’zy had to have been out there without water for at least four three days. She was feverish and the gash on her head looked horrible as well. “Jack,” she called again and he slid closer to her, pulling her head onto his lap and stroking her hair. The act seemed to calm her some; perhaps she still believed he was her lover. “Sleep K’n’zy,” he told her in a soft voice after dropping a few more drops of water into her mouth. |

The storm finally began to break and M'k'n'zy packed up what remained of their supplies and condesned them into Kinsey's bag. He had been in the pit for sometime and his supplies were almost gone. Mac had been on his way out of the pit when he had come across a rather dehydrated Kinsey. After he sealed her bag he swung it onto his back and gently picked Kinsey up. She was starting to look a little better but she still need medical attention soon rather then later. It was still take them about a day or two to make it back to Calhoun and carrying Kinsey would take even longer. He was starting to kick himself for not taking a communicator with him. It had taken some effort making his way out of the cave and up to the edge of the ridge. Once his feet hit hard and bone dry dirt he respostioned Kinsey and headed for Calhoun. Hoping that if there were Gods they would understand their need and send some kind of help. But he wasn't going to hold his breathe. |

Mac was making good time on their trek back to the remains of Calhoun. They had to stop once when Kinsey seemed to be having a fit in her unconscious state. He was not sure what had brought it on. Whether it was a bad dream or her physical condition but after a minute or two, she seemed to calm down enough for him to carry her again. Night had almost fallen when Calhoun came into view. They were almost there and Mac considered finishing the trip but carry Kinsey was starting to wear on him greatly. It wasn’t that she was heavy it was a long distance in a great heat not to mention he wasn’t the same 20 something Xenexian kid who lead his people to freedom. He was getting old. Something caught his eye and pulled him from his thoughts as he set Kinsey down on the ground. Something in the distance looked as though it had moved. The hairs on the back of his neck didn’t indicate that there was an danger and he walk almost ready to write it off as him going crazy in his old age when he thought he heard something. Mac cocked his head to the side and strained to hear. At first, he heard nothing and then shouts. He heard shouting. He couldn’t make out what was being said they were still too far away from there but there were defiantly people in Calhoun. Mac pulled Kinsey back into his arms, stood, and took a step right onto a transporter padd. He was shortly disoriented by the sudden change in scenery. It didn’t take him long to tell that instead of standing on Xenex he was now standing in the transporter room of a starship. “I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting to find you Captain,” Nathan said as he took a step towards the transporter padd. “I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting to be found by you either Captain,” Calhoun retorted. “Lucky for you I know my sister,” Nathan replied as he started for the door. “Sickbay already knows you’re coming. What happened?” “She’ll have to tell you that,” Mac said simply as he carried Kinsey to sickbay with Nathan in tow. |

“Jack!” Kinsey yelled as she sat upright on the biobed. At first, she was not sure where she was until her eyes focus and everything became clear. She had somehow made it aboard the New Zealand. Kinsey looked around at the members of the medical staff present they were starring back at her with wide-eyed expressions. She ignored them as she slipped from the biobed. Her body was still weak from lack of water and her headached from the concussion but her urgency drove her to continue to the door. “Where’s Nathan?” Kinsey inquired as a nurse began to rush over to her and force her back to bed. “He’s on the bridge. You should really lie down Kinsey. You have a concussion and you’re still dehydrated.” The nurse told her as she reached out to help Kinsey back to the biobed. “I’ll drink plenty of water.” Kinsey stated as she forced herself out of sickbay. Kinsey had the incredible feeling something was wrong. She couldn’t explain it but she knew something was wrong and it involved Jack which meant it involved Keira as well. “She what?” Kinsey heard Nathan say as the turbolift doors opened onto the bridge. The sickbay staff had alerted him to her condition more than likely. “Kinsey go back to sickbay that’s an order,” Nathan said as he stood and looked at her. “I mean it Kinsey go back to sickbay right now.” “Shut up,” Kinsey told him which earned a chorus of gasps from the bridge crew. “Excuse me?” Nathan inquired, surprised to by her directness. “I want my ship readied to leave. Right now or I’m going to go down there and blast open your shuttlebay.” Kinsey informed him in a matter of fact tone. “And just where do you think you’re going? You’re in no condition to be tracing around the galaxy.” Nathan retorted as he moved closer to her. Kinsey behavior had him rather concerned. Never had she been so direct or demanding with him. “Home,” she replied simply, which caught Nathan off guard. “You’re dead you can’t exactly go walking back Kinsey. What the hell is going on?” Nathan said as he laid his hand on her shoulder. “I’m leaving Nathan release my ship,” Kinsey repeated and turned to head for the turbolift. She spun a little too fast and lost her balance. Nathan caught her and held her on her felt. There was sadness and concern in his eyes and it made her feel bad for how she was acting but only briefly. “I have to go. He’s in trouble. I feel it.” “Who? Jack?” Nathan inquired. Kinsey nodded. “Kinsey you’re in no condition to go off by yourself and you have no way to know how he is right now. What did you do have a vision or something?” He joked. “I have never asked you for anything,” Kinsey said, her expression grave. “You asked me to keep the fact that you’re a live a secret.” He retorted. “For me Nathan and this is my family we’re talking about. They’re in trouble.” Kinsey pleaded. Nathan wasn’t sure what it was that finally forced him to give in. Whether it was the tears or the pain he saw in her violet eyes both were something new for him. “Okay. We are due for a supply run. It will probably get me in trouble with Starfleet since Terra Alpha broke away while you were gone. But we’ll take you.” Nathan told her as he started to walk her towards his ready room. He had considered taking her back to sickbay but thought twice. He had never seen her do demanding and worried that he had no idea how she would react. Honestly, her current condition scared the shit out of him. “Thank you,” she whispered as she allowed him to walk her to the ready room. |

Kinsey's sleep was fitful to the point that she gave up trying. It was as though she could hear Jack screaming in her mind even though there was no actual sound. It didn't matter what Nathan told her in his attempts to reassure her she knew beyond a doubt that something had happened to Jack. Had, because the screams had gone silent and it worried her more then the screams. "I never should have left." Kinsey stated allowed, feeling that in someway she was now responsible for whatever had happened. |

The New Zealand dropped out of warp near Starbase Byron. The station had fortified its defenses since the last time Nathan had been through the sector. "Ops has granted our request to dock." The New Zealand's operations officer stated. "Move us into position. As soon as we are in range of the planet beam Kinsey down." Nathan ordered as he reclaimed his seat. Kinsey walked out of the ready room she still looked a bit unhealthy but no one said a thing about it. "We are in range." The nav officer stated as Terra Alpha consumed the view screen. "be careful." Nathan told Kinsey as she walked to the trubolift. |
