These Puzzling Creatures

Zerna and Clio continued to puzzle Peach; they would be friends for a moment and then suddenly seemed to be bitter enemies. Sometimes they went days without talking or even seeing each other, but other days they were practically inseparable. These strange humanoid creatures were infuriatingly confusing, and neither of them wanted to explain things in terms that Peach could understand. She wondered how Clio could both love and hate Zerna at the same time, but when she'd asked Clio had just said 'not now, Peach' and changed the subject. So Peach decided to see if she could get Zerna to talk instead. She'd taken a long time to study the mental link she shared with Clio, and eventually she was able to establish one on her own with the cave cats near Clio's house. Since she could do it with the cave cats, she thought she might be able to do it with Zerna as well.

Her 'touch' was not as well practiced as Clio's was, but she gently tapped against Zerna's consciousness to alert him to her presence. Remembering what had happened every time Clio touched his mind, Peach denied him the opportunity to pull her in by pulling him in instead, projecting an image of a empty room with one light shining in the middle of it. Beyond the circle of light was darkness, and that was where Peach lingered, waiting to see how Zerna would react.

It was a strange sensation, being sucked in to another creatures mind and not to mention the feeling of vastness in the room. “Hello?” he asked, his words echoed. He had not been able to identify the 'poke' earlier. “Miss Clio, if this is some kind of joke or payback. I am not amused!”

"I am not Miss Clio. You do know me, however."

”I do?” he asked as he raised an eyebrow. He started to analyze the situation. “Neither Bell or the brute has any psychic abilities, but then who?” he thought for him self, he close his eyes and stretched out through the room, trying to find the 'umbilical cord' of the mental link that he had been pulled in to, he focused a little and then around the area and noticed two, one was somehow connected to Clio and the other to him. Then it hit him. “Ehm... Peach?”

"Yes. Hello, Mister Jernal." Peach paused momentarily. "I do apologize if I've been inconsiderate, but it is very lonely in this ocean port. Miss Clio has not been to see me since the incident with Mister Bell. She will not answer me either, but I do not know why."

He looked around the place as he tried to figure out the creature. “Excuse me if I might be rude, but you speech pattern and manner is... Not what I expected...” Zerna paused as well. “But I am sure you want to leave that alone, I am quite surprised that you reached out to me though. Considering how absolutely infuriated Miss Clio. So what can I do for you?” he asked, his hands behind his back.

"My species is descended from two space-faring species whose only defenses were to be polite or start ramming each other. Despite what the Cerva have done to us over the centuries, we retain a degree of our old minds. Besides, Miss Clio would not want me to be rude. I do not think she appreciated that I shocked you, but at the time I could not communicate with anyone other than her." Since Peach did not appear to have a physical appearance in the small environment, she allowed her psychic voice to convey her slight remorse over the incident. "I knew that you and she had talked this way and that you could be contacted. You also know Miss Clio very well, and I thought you might know why she is ignoring me recently."

“Ah. Well, I was not really in my right mind at the time, probably never will. But maybe you would grace me with the story of your people one day. A bio-mechanical creature, your kind survive the extreme of outer space. Cold, radiation, vacuum.” Jernal sat down in the middle of the platform that was light, his legs crossed and his back straight. “The answer to your question... I am afraid that I wouldn't know very much. All I can tell you are very wide speculations from a general perspective.” he began, his eyes closed. “She is not the same species as I am, we didn't grow up together and she is a woman. So all I can offer are a list of 'maybies'. Would that be to your satisfaction?”

"I suppose that would be satisfactory. I do not have much experience with this type of situation. Miss Clio has never left me alone for longer than a day or two, and only if she was having one of those headaches she gets. I do not know if you have seen that or not. But this is different. As far as I can tell, she has not left the house since she returned home."

“Do you mind if I ask for a little more information? Like what happened before she got home? How she acted different then as to now.”

"Humanoid behavior is difficult for me to understand," Peach admitted a little sheepishly. "So I can only tell you what I have observed and not what it means. However, she seems withdrawn and does not accept many visitors. Sometimes she does not answer the door, even with the canine barking at the guest through the windows. The only company she seems to be keeping is that canine and the two equines on the property. She is spending a lot of time with them that she used to spend with me."

“Well, the complexity to humanoids are indeed great. Women ten fold so. But I wouldn't worry, her feelings towards you are still very strong. In fact she called me a hypocrite a few moments ago. Only because I called you a fr...” he stopped him self, nearly forgetting not to call the creature that. After talking to her, it was quite evident she was a good soul.

"She does not like it when you call me that word. It upsets her when people do not recognize that I am not just a ship." Peach decided not to comment on her own distaste for the nickname. "I think she is still very angry with you. So much so that she will not ask to use your strange tank to heal the scar on her face. It hurts her, and the doctors have not been able to repair it."

“Well, I deserve it and what I sent to you I meant. You also don't need to worry about her scar, I will demand that she uses it.” he looked out in to the darkness. “Can you transfer the pain somewhere else?”

"I do not know. I have never tried such a thing because it has never been necessary."
