“Peach, I only wanted you to transfer her pain to me.” Zerna said in a low slow voice. “She has other things she needs to think about, like beating the crap out of Bruno.”

"She is stubborn and would not allow the connection. I will do it, and then I will send her away again, if that is what you wish."

Clio rolled her eyes. "I don't need to beat Bruno. His little pea-sized brain didn't take long to break. And what's this about 'transferring pain'? My tolerance for it is higher than yours."

"Be quiet. He wants to help you, and I am going to help him do it." When Clio started to protest, Peach made a growling sound at her. "No. You will not give me orders. You will be still and let me do this." Though she did not have Clio's permission, Peach forged a connection between the two humanoids, a temporary mental link that would enable her to make the transfer. "If you had not fought me, this would have been easier."

"I get the feeling that I'm being bullied by my own ship... and that I'm being double-teamed. How the hell did you convince her to do this?

“I only asked her if she could transfer the pain, she asked to why and I answered...” he shrugged and then the pain of the wound hit him, it was pretty deep so it was pulsating through the entire side of his face with the dull pain and the sharp pain ran across the would it self. He took a deep breath and tried to disconnect his pain center of his brain, but this was not really his actual mind so he couldn't really remove it.

"I am sorry. I should have warned you." Sensing his efforts to block the sensation, Peach carefully overlaid a muting effect on the transferred pain. "When you leave this place, your ability to turn off your pain receptors will be restored. I did not know that you being here would prevent you from using it."

Gingerly touching the side of her face, Clio gave Zerna - and the place Peach's voice seemed to come from - a curious look. "I don't understand. Why?"

“It is done, please send her back Peach.” he started to try and breathe through the pain.

"You have not answered her question," Peach replied helpfully as she severed the direct link between her humanoid guests. "But if you do not wish to speak with each other, I will send her home." As she prepared to send Clio away, Peach tapped into their private link. I will explain later. He does not wish for you to be here, and I must honor his request.

You'll explain now, Peach.

You are as dense as he is! He kissed you, did he not? There was a triumphant feeling to Peach's presence when Clio's telepathic avatar immediately blushed in response to the private communication. Now go home. Bye! She pushed Clio back out of the 'public' conversation, leaving Zerna alone again. "Mister Jernal, I can send you home as well, if you wish."

“Thank you, but I can stay here if you would have me.” he was finding it hard to talk with the pain to his one side of the face. “Would you honor me with stories of your people?” he asked.

"I am still very young and do not know many of the stories, but I will tell you what I can. There are two branches to our heredity, the Gekli and what you humanoids call Leviathans. Most of us are hybrids of the two species by now, but outside of Cervan space the Gekli and Leviathans are free and separate. They do not even live near each other, so the interbreeding the Cerva forced on us does not happen outside of captivity. They also do not have weaponry, and many do not even have the bioelectric internal defenses. They are often... exploited by other races."

Even with all the pain, his face showed the shock. “Slaves?”

"Yes. Many Gekli and Leviathans are enslaved, as are the hybrids the Cerva have bred. Centuries ago, at the time of Vulcan's Sundering, the people who became the Cerva found the Leviathans and captured many of them. Later they found the Gekli and did the same to them. Eventually they began interbreeding the two species to create larger bioships. You can see that evidence in my tail." Peach projected an image of herself to him. "Most of my heritage is Leviathan, but the Gekli tail has been passed down for many generations. It helps us to fly in atmosphere better than the pure Leviathans could."

He sighed, “No one should be slaves. Do you have any questions of me? Helps me deal with the pain to focus on other things.” he gestured to his face that was hurting.

"I agree with you. I think I am lucky to have Miss Clio because I am not her slave. Instead, I am her friend, like the canine. He does work for her too. It is different work though... he helps her move the horses, and sometimes he herds sheep." Peach paused, considering what she might ask him. "Why did you leave Miss Clio's house? She very much wanted you to stay."

“She has hit me several times, ones nearly killed me. She screams and threatens me. I don't blame her, so I simply removed myself to ease the stress on her.”

"Oh. I think I understand. She does not respond well to increased stress, and many times she thought you to be threatening. You are much larger than she is, and you are stronger as well. She is not accustomed to seeing that, particularly from a member of a race not related to Vulcans or Klingons. When you are angry, you frighten her."
