It was about mid-morning - later than she usually went to give the horses their breakfast - and Callidora was greeted by a very hungry and insistent pair of horses when she walked into Cordale's stable. Buttercup only nickered at her, but Pepper stamped her hooves and tossed her head, demanding in very clear terms that she be fed now. Callidora shook her head as she filled the bucket and filled Buttercup's feed trough first. "Be polite or you won't get any at all," she told Pepper sternly. "You don't act like that for Miss Clio, and I don't think she'd like me to tell her you're being rude."

As Pepper slowly stopped her demanding behavior, Callidora made sure Buttercup had water and that her door to the pasture was open before turning her attention to the spotted horse. "That's better." She patted Pepper's nose and then fed her, filled her water bucket, and opened Pepper's stall door into the pasture. As the horses ate, she spent a few minutes brushing each of them, occasionally glancing through the stable's door toward the house. They hadn't directly told her that Jernal was awake, but word spread fast on a ship, and she'd overheard several comments about it.

Normally she stayed away from the house; Murphy guarded the door, and there wasn't usually anyone home anyway. This time, however, her curiosity drew her toward the house when she'd finished with the horses. She paused for a moment at the door and then knocked, wondering if anyone would answer.

Zerna had been home about a day and he felt rather good. He didn’t have access to the upper or lower part of the house yet, but the ground floor was much better then inside a mountain. He heard a knock on the door. “Who is all String Theory knocks now days!” He used the hover chair to the door and opened. “What!?!” he bursted out before he could see who it was. “Oh. Hey kid. What can I do for you?”

"I came to see you. And I knocked because Miss Clio disabled the doorbell a few weeks ago. The sound of it hurts her ears." Callidora paused, looking over his shoulder to see if Murphy and Spunky were inside. "Can I come in?"

"Well... I didn't hear Murphy bark... I'm just making sure he's not going to jump on me."

"Oh, I just claimed the ground floor. But come in." he moved the hover chair to the side. "Of course Spunky doesn't care about that, she should be asleep somewhere..."

"Spunky doesn't jump on me the way Murphy does. I think she knows I don't like it." Once he'd moved aside to let her in, Callidora went inside the house, still watching for the apparently missing dog.

He smiled and nodded to the dog who was sitting on top of the chair, looking like he was itching to race down and jump the guest.

"...how'd you get him to do that?" She couldn't help laughing a little at the dog's dismayed expression combined with the wild wagging of his tail.

"Simple. I dominated him enough and got it to his head that the bottom floor is mine." he looked at the dog. "Go ahead." he gave the dog the right to come down.

Murphy jumped off the chair and trotted over, sitting down and holding his paw up. Callidora giggled at him, shaking his paw and then petting his head. "Mom still had Murphy when I was little... he listened pretty well, but she couldn't make him stop jumping on people."

"I just wanted to see how you were doing. I mean... you were in the hospital for a really long time. I wasn't sure you'd even be here... but I was here to feed the horses anyway so I thought I'd check."

"Twins? No way." Callidora paused, studying him to see if he might be playing a joke on her. "Really?"
