He was staring at her, but not the way he had before. It was more bewilderment than adoration; he wasn't just surprised to see her. He looked... disappointed. Shaken. And she didn't know why, especially not looking at him. He wasn't the skinny little science geek he'd been at the academy; instead, he looked like he lived inside a gym and worked out all day. Looks more like the Jarheads I work with than a scientist... She shook her head slightly, wondering if this had been a very bad idea. "I'm not an idiot... I know you're with someone." She gestured at the candles and the tea, deciding not to point out the obvious fact that he was also naked. "I'm not here to take you from her. I just... wanted to find out... never mind. I shouldn't even be here, at your house."

He managed to collect him self. "What do you want? The marine career got boring? The marines not interesting anymore?" he gestured to his left. "There is the guest room, wait there if you must, I am going up to have a relaxing bath!"

"What?" Confused by the sudden change in his attitude, she actually took a step backward, afraid he might lash out at her. "I don't even know what you're talking about... look, I'm just going to leave. You don't want me here, and honestly... I'm a little scared."

He looked at her as if he was thinking he was caught in a twilight zone. "What? What happened to the woman who was so bold to send me a message about my lacking physique, that 'A marine is a real man'?" he looked at her. The attitude she had in the letter didn't fit this at all.

"Message? What message? The only message I sent you that night was an apology that I wasn't going to make it to dinner. I got sick during class... and then the next morning there was a message from you on my computer. Something about how you'd found someone else to have dinner with..." She trailed off, slowly beginning to realize that something wasn't right. "And then my father transferred me to the Marine academy. Where there were 'real men'... I'm going to kill him."

"I sent no such message. I did send like hundreds of messages trying to find out what happened and why you felt like that..." he again gestured to the guest room. "Have a seat, it would seam that we have a great deal to talk about..."

"Yeah... no kidding." She sighed a little, shaking her head. "I still have that old portable terminal I used at the academy... I'll take a look at it later and see what the hell he did to it. You go do... whatever it is you were doing. I'll wait down here. Won't touch anything, I swear." Still somewhat wary of going inside, she entered anyway, heading toward the indicated guest room to wait.

"Might be a while, so use the TV if you want. Spunky might join you later. But don't let her trick you in to giving treats." he grinned as he walked up the stairs. "I'm sorry, we have a guest waiting in the guest room. But I told her that it might be a while." he grinned at Clio as he placed the candles and tea on the side of the jacuzzi.

"I was starting to wonder what was going on, with all the yelling after the door bell went off. But I was not getting out of the tub to come find out unless I heard murderous noises." She grinned at him, carefully nudging one of the candles back before it could fall into the water. "So... a guest? I didn't think we were expecting anyone..."

"Neither did I. Least of all her." he started by poring her tea for her and giving her the cup, then he light the candles before turning off the lights. "So, how am I doing on the romance scale?"

"Hmm. Pretty good, only thing missing is music..." She took a sip of the warm tea, surprised to find that its flavor mimicked the scent of the candles. "I didn't know we had any of the cinnamon tea left... you must have had this hidden somewhere."

"Ah yes... What kind of music you think would work?" he picked up a remote that he had placed there not more then a few days ago. He had installed a house wide music system that could play different music in different rooms if needed. He began to step in to the water, but the heat made him make funny faces as he tried to deal with it. "Good thing I heal fast or I would cook in this water..."

"I don't know, something instrumental though. There should be a list of piano and violin pieces... I like those. And the water is not that hot." She snickered at his funny faces, wondering if she'd misjudged the temperature.

"Alright," he put in the commands and soon her request of music started to play in the background. He swallowed hard when he looked at the water. He wasn't looking forward to sitting down, granted his legs didn't hurt as much because they probably quickly got used to the heat. But... Sitting down...

"Oh, all right." Still laughing a little, she reached over to the cold tap and turned it on just long enough to chill the water so that it felt just barely warm enough to be comfortable. "I left space to add cold water just in case. Should be safe now."
