"Oh? Show me what rib." he looked at his torso.

"Here." She touched the skin over his fifth rib, and then tapped the screen on the portable scanner. "It isn't very deep, but it's sitting directly behind the bone. And with the other bones so close, there's no way to go sideways to get it either."

"Give me a cut just below the rib please and then pull the ribs a part so I can go and get it." he sighed, this was going to be painful, maybe even more then he could take without passing out.

"Yeah... I can do that. Let me get the other three first though... moving the bones might force them deeper, and then we'd have a bigger problem." The three pellets that were embedded in the muscles were close to the surface, and each of them easily popped free with only a tiny amount of extra pressure. Once they were loose, she paused and then opened a longer cut along the bottom edge of the rib that was blocking the last pellet. To get enough space for him to try to grab that last bit of lead, she had to force the cut open with her hands, so she looked away before doing so.

The pain was excruciating and it took everything he had to even stay awake, his vision started to tunnel and he quickly started to dig for the last piece. His breathing became rapid and he started to sweat quite badly, the pain was so bad that his eyes started to tear up. But with a long sigh, he passed out but he had just managed to get the last pellet and it was now resting in the middle of his half closed hand.

As soon as he'd retrieved the pellet, she pulled back and let the cut close before retrieving the pellet from his hand and putting it in the tray with the others. She found a pack of moist cleaning wipes in the bag and used one to wipe the blood off her hands before she looked at him again. Wondering how long he was going to be unconscious she lightly tapped the side of his face to see if she could wake him up.

The female huffed at her as he curled up more, almost as if she was guarding part of him with her body. He happily purred. Moments later more of the pride moved over to them, adding their bodies to hers as well as their purring.

He didn't immediately respond, but he was breathing and the cats' behavior suggested that he was fine... even if he hadn't woken back up. If she hadn't had her own experiences with the body's weird responses to pain, she might have been worried, but she knew he was likely to wake up in the next few minutes. So she calmly wiped off the scalpel and the tweezers, placing them back in the bag before sitting down nearby. While she waited for Zerna's brain to 'reboot', she watching Murphy and Pup play a spirited game of tug-of-war with a stick one of them had found.

A few minutes pass and Zerna slowly wakes up, only to quickly wake up more as Pup had managed to pull the stick free and ran over him, followed closely by Murphy who was barking happily. The gathering of cats followed their play but did nothing, it was almost as they were as amused as pup and Murphy of the play. Moments later a horde of cubs come running at them, eager to join the fun.

"Knew that hologram was good for something." Clio chuckled a little as one of the cubs clambered across her lap to play with the dogs. "All the pellets are out. You'll probably want to take a shower though... you're covered in blood."

He felt the aftermath of his sweating. "Couldn't help get the sweat off either." he said as he sat up. "Thank you beautiful one." he patted the cave cat on the head and gave her nose a gentle kiss. She huffed at first, she didn't know what that mouth to nose thing was, but she figured it was part of the bipedal ways.

Clio smiled a little when he kissed the cave cat's nose. "She guarded you after you passed out. Not aggressively, and she didn't try to drive me away or anything. But if someone else had tried to touch you, we'd be cleaning up the mess. I'm starting to wonder if she's so grateful because one of the injured cats might be one of her cubs. Or a littermate."

"I don't know. But I think they know that we care very much for them. Maybe you can tell her about the idea we are planing for them and the pack. The Alpha male knows, but I wonder if she does." he said as he walked towards the house.

"I would think he told her, but I'll talk to her anyway. I don't think I want to try standing back up yet." The female cat was just within reach, and she very gently scratched the cat's chin, careful to avoid any gestures that might suggest that she was attempting to subvert the cat's dominance. "Or maybe he hasn't told you... you don't seem to know what we're planning." Thinking that Spunky might help explain it better, she whistled for the young cave cat to join them. "I know you understand speech, but I think it will be easier if we have a translator."

Spunky had been playing with Buttercup all day and had been so focused on it that she had missed the new fun. When she saw the horde of cats and... two dogs? Well, she didn't care she took off at top speed towards the gang.
