"Maybe, but I think he loved you non the less." he smiled, he lifted his arm as a gesture for her to come close if she needed the comfort. |

"I'm his mother. Of course he loves me." She gave him a wary look. "Last time I got close to you, your girlfriend tried to make my head implode. I'm not sure that's safe." |

"She is not here anymore. And I doubt she did it intentionally, I am offering you the comfort of the real me. Something that has been impossible for you in over a decade." |

She hesitated, considering the offer for several long seconds. His words made sense, but she still worried about what might happen if the other woman came back. Even so, she edged just a little bit closer, close enough to touch him but not close enough for an embrace. "I know she didn't do it on purpose. It's a passive ability... can't be controlled." |

"Then take the offered embrace. In my eyes you are still Miss Clio and I can give you something that I think you have missed just as much as well..." |

"I'm not her. Not anymore... I haven't been for a very long time." She hesitated a little longer and then moved close enough to accept the embrace and lean on his shoulder like she'd done years before. |

He held her close. "Here," he took her hand and placed it over his heart. "Know that it beats for you, you are her who had tragedy push you down the sad road. So each heart beat that is to my Clio, is also indirectly to you as well." |

"That really shouldn't make nearly as much sense as it does. Logic's a bit twisted... but I still can't argue with it. Though I'm not certain she'd agree with you." |

"I am. If she knew what I do, she would understand. I bet she would be able to see it from your perspective too. So ask me of anything and I might give it to you." |

"I am quite content to sit here where it's warm." Taking the risk that she might be caught by his jealous - and perhaps overprotective - girlfriend, she turned slightly and kissed his cheek, smiling a little. "Last I checked, you don't have the ability to grant a full night's sleep or I'd ask for that. It's been ten years since I slept through the night. Even here I can't." |

((Brief interlude because I promised Zerna I'd have Theia tell Clio the story.)) After leaving the cell where Zerna and the 'Blood Queen' were talking, Clio found an empty waiting room far enough down the hallway that she wouldn't overhear their conversation but close enough to run back if she heard any screams for help. She didn't expect any problems, but it never hurt to be close by just in case. She found a place in the room to sit down, turning the AI core over in her hands as she did so. She'd watched Zerna activate it before, but that had been before he rebuilt it, and it took her a few moments to find the hidden button on the device's side. Once she found and pressed it, she grinned a little when the hologram practically jumped into existence, rather than flickering as it had before. Theia looked around as she materialized, a curious expression crossing her features. "Where are we?" "In the Mount, down the hall from where your mother's been staying." "My mother. She has not used that terminology for just over a year." Clio shrugged. "She didn't say it. I figured it out... if Zerna is your father, and she married your father... she'd be your mother. Technically, anyway." She hesitated, not certain how she should start the conversation she really wanted to have. "Zerna said something about loss and tragedy. What was he talking about?" "Oh..." Theia gave her what could pass as a crestfallen look. "I don't think it would be good for you to hear that." "I can handle it. Besides, I want to understand why she tried to kill him. And why, of all things, it was the promise that he'd make her some tea and spend time with her that brought her into custody so easily." Theia hesitated, not sure who she should obey. She did think of the Blood Queen as her mother, but this woman was - technically - the same person. "It is because he is gone," she said finally. "The Imperium took him, kept him for ten years, and finally found a way to kill him two weeks before we came here. She did not know at first that we traveled back... she thought he was a clone, there to kill her." "...oh." Hearing that, Clio went very quiet for a moment, wondering if this possible future would play out as her own personal one. "But why the tea? It doesn't make sense." Theia gave her a 'you know better than that' look. "When she was upset or not feeling well, my father would give her tea to make her feel better. Zerna knew it would work because he knows you, but he also had me tell her about the first time he kissed you on his own initiative. Since we merely jumped back along her own timeline, that detail had not changed." "But she still suspected that he wasn't really who he said he was. She wouldn't accept it until she saw your new casing." "That is because she has had to learn to be very cautious. The first clones that the Imperium sent were poor approximations of my father, but the later ones began to act more like him. One even had his healing ability, and he nearly managed to kill her before she found a way to overwhelm him. However, none of them had his brain. She began to ask them questions when they approached, and none of them could answer her. A clone would not have been able to fix me." "I see." The news that the Imperium eventually would come to Terra Alpha was troubling enough, but to hear that they would take Zerna and then use him as bait... the thought of it turned her stomach, and she shook her head, sighing a little. "What about the children? You haven't mentioned them, and I know she has at least two." "They are gone too. Callidora tried to save her father, and the Imperium troops killed her. Ace has been missing for a year. He said he wanted to save them, and we have not seen him since then." "They killed her? Who does that to a child?" "The Imperium does." Theia paused, studying her. "You should calm down. The stress is not good for the babies." "Calm down? You just told me I'm going to lose my entire family. Don't you dare tell me to calm down." "The future is not set," Theia reminded her, somewhat firmly. "My mother's past does not have to be your future." |

"Well, I can lay next to you until you fall asleep if that helps. Maybe I can give you one of my firts that has my sense of smell on it..." he shrugged and smiled at the kiss. |
