The sound of the door again was nothing special, but then he started talking to Spunky and she stopped short, bypassing the stairs and going to look into the kitchen instead. "Oh, that's cute. You'll come inside for the cat but not for me. There's tea on the table, not that I think you deserve any kindness right now." She didn't wait for an answer; instead, she walked away and continued on her previous path, going up the stairs to the little alcove upstairs.

"Are you helpless?!?" he called to her.

She stopped halfway up the stairs, glaring at him over the railing. "Don't even start that conversation. She wouldn't have been out there if you'd come inside when I asked. And God help you if you snap at me like that again... I am not putting up with that nonsense. I don't care what your excuse is."

"Then quit being nosy!" he snapped at her again, this time he walked out through the glass door again and headed for his truck. He didn't really feel like being anywhere near her at the moment.

"I wouldn't have to be nosy if you would talk to me!" she yelled after him. For a moment, she was sorely tempted to follow him and knock some sense into his stupid head, but she knew if she did that one of them was going to end up in the hospital... and this time it probably wouldn't be Zerna. So instead she stormed up the stairs, bypassing her alcove in favor of the library for now. Both were quiet, but from the library she didn't have to watch as he drove away.

Zerna gunned his truck harder then was necessary, the cave cats had taken shelter under a tree so he didn't need to worry about them and he simply gunned the truck down the path that lead to the flattop.

Hearing the truck go roaring down the driveway, she rolled her eyes. It was a stupid decision, but she was going to let him make that stupid decision; she could smack some sense into him when he finally came home. After a few quiet breaths, she returned to the tiny alcove, opening the bench to pull out her sketchpad and her pencils and paints. Closing the lid of the bench, she left those there and then retrieved her easel from the closet in her bedroom, setting it up near the bench to use later. She didn't want to ruin a painting with her current mood; instead she would abuse the sketchpad for a while. She sat down with it, sitting sideways on the bench so that she could watch the rain as she drew.

He didn't drive more then five minutes before he stopped at the side of the road. He hit the wheal a few times in frustration before he actually started to cry as he leaned on it.

Between the rain and the pencil on the sketchpad, Clio calmed down quickly, easily mesmerized by the familiar and comforting sounds. Deep down, she knew the calm wouldn't last once Zerna returned, but for now... she was going to enjoy it. She did a series of rapid sketches, most of them of the sizable cave cat pride that had moved onto the Cordale property. One in particular made her grin when she finished it, a pile of cubs sprawled around the pride's alpha female; that one she gently tore free of the pad, tucking it between the cushion of the bench and the window. She might turn it into a painting later, after she finished the one she wanted to do now.

Deciding she wanted to capture the mood of the painting instead of keeping it purely realistic, she pushed most of the paints to the side, leaving behind only the various shades of blue, gray, and black. As Murphy settled in nearby, she quietly began her work, delving deeper into the meditative state that her art often put her in.

It took ten minutes for him to stop crying and fifty minutes more for him to even move another muscle. Then he turned the truck around and headed back.

The sound of the approaching truck threatened to break her continuing calm, but she gently pushed the feeling away and re-focused her full attention on the painting as Murphy jumped up and scrambled down the stairs, barking as if he thought a guest was arriving. She wasn't going down there to greet Zerna; he'd made it pretty clear that he wasn't interested in talking to her, and she was more likely to stab him than she was to talk to him. So she stayed in her little alcove, ignoring Murphy's barks and the sound of the engine.

He locked his truck and he was soon inside. He waited for her to come rushing down and crack his eardrums. But nothing, his fear rushed back to him as he ran his hands through his hair as he was starting to panic.

Downstairs, Murphy was still barking, but his 'voice' changed from 'someone's here' to friendly 'pet me' barks. Alongside the noise he was making came a rolling wave of pure panic, and it was that feeling of panic that rattled her. She sighed, putting her paintbrush into the little cup of water beside the bench before heading down the stairs. He damn well better not expect me to be nice to him after all that...

Zerna quickly gave Murphy his more or less demanding pet on the head and he sat down. He heard the foot steps coming down the stairs and he looked at the door as if he was expecting death it self to take him. Was she going to talk to him? Or was she going to ignore him? He found himself wanting both in some ways. He could take all kinds of physical pain and just shrug it off, but emotional pain and pressure was the one thing he wasn't able to deal with.

He wasn't hard to find; all she had to do was follow the wave of panic and uncertainty to its source. When she found him, she stopped in the doorway, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest. At first, she didn't say anything, simply looking at him while the foyer's chandelier rattled behind her. When she finally spoke, her voice was calm and steady. "If you think throwing around a bunch of panic because I wasn't at the door to greet you is going to get you back on my good side, you're mistaken."
