Step 1. This is optional.. but I find it helps to fill in alot of space that could be left over if you just use brushes on their own. Try using this.. and try without this step and see how it goes. With your foreground/background colours on white/black.. go to Filter>Render>Clouds. ![]() Step 2. You need to make a new layer. Change the 'Mode' to Overlay. On this layer add a grunge brush somewhere on the pic with any colour.. preferably a bright one. ![]() Step 3. With a new layer for each brush.. keep adding different grunge pieces in different colours all over the pic.. with the mode set to overlay. ![]() Step 4. Keep doing this until you have loads of layers.. 10+.. or until the pic is almost covered. ![]() Step 5. Merge all these together onto one layer. Then go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation. Here click 'Colorize' and you'll see something like this. ![]() You can change the colour/hue/lightness etc.. to make whatever you like. e.g ![]() Add a pic & text and you're done. ![]() Obviously this was a quick go.. you can make shit look alot better.. but that's basically how I do those backgrounds.
